stinker 04-11-2006, 05:12 PM Guys I got these prices from port pros in austin TX they built my bottom end , so I figured anyone needing to build or rebuild this might be a tad helpful.
custom pistons 8.5.1 ratio $1599
v-10 rods 7/16 bolts 1500hp $1499
viper 3036/3037 hr 114 cam $563.71
arp billet main caps set of 6 $729.98
Arp windage tray and bolts/main studs $199
Install mains / align bore $500
align hone main housing $250
blue print short block $1000
balance crank $250
hone and machine block for heavy metal $525
subtotal $7117.67
This is to build a short block , bullet proof, well supposedly, anyway I figured since we have so many builds and failures going on , I would share what it should cost basically from anyone what things would cost. Now you may find cheaper and you may find higher, but this will get you in the ball park.
.
Silverback 04-11-2006, 05:15 PM Any idea what the cost is for a block.
stinker 04-11-2006, 05:17 PM Uh no, I didnt need one of them at the time, but I am checking around to see what I can come up with :D
Hamrhead 04-11-2006, 05:19 PM How about that RSI place?
stinker 04-11-2006, 05:27 PM RSI was around $5000, you send them your block and they rebuild with better rods and piston, period, I found everthing else, mains , balancing was extra.
redramrules 04-11-2006, 06:54 PM What kind of final HP are you lookin at after all those mods? Would the Stryker heads add additional HP? I was considering an all N/A mod list and I think you summed it up quite well. Thanks for sharing!
Texas Yellow Fever 04-11-2006, 07:02 PM John Hennesey posted a price the other day as well for a built short block, I think it was around $8500 as I recall...but that did not include the block, obviously.
stinker 04-11-2006, 07:09 PM Stryker heads fully assemble I think from DC performance are $6500 or so and well worth it.
I'm not going natural, mine will be blown by twins :D
I'm hoping for 800rwhp or better, with stock heads.
with this bottom end and stryker heads I would think 600ish hp?
.
stinker 04-11-2006, 07:10 PM John H. was quoting a stroker wasnt he, that is much more involved.
redramrules 04-11-2006, 07:21 PM Awesome, thanks for the info, good luck with the twins :D
nowwhat 04-11-2006, 07:47 PM great info...thanks stink....
womsterr 04-11-2006, 08:34 PM Blocks can't be had. Only short blocks from Mopar.....I think they are in the 7-8 k range....
I found a new block and crank used but they are HARD HARD HARD to come by...
Stroked the crank
Styker heads
forged rods
forged pistons
nitriting
coated bearings
coated pistons
o ring the heads
cylinders overbored and honed
arp studs
billet mains
precision balance
line bored etc...
good **** costs a lot of $$$$$$ ;)
stinker 04-11-2006, 10:00 PM By the way if John H. builds your block , whether it is stroked or not you know it will be right, he has had too many years and too many #3's in the past , I dont think you would have any problems with his at all. You definitly get what you pay for, just somethin to think about.

I wasn't aware John had an in house machine shop. He builds blocks there?
stinker 04-11-2006, 11:55 PM this thread was started to give the guys information about how much it would cost to rebuild a bottom end decently.
John H also posted the cost to build a stroker bottom end, I gave him kudos for that.
I never said John H built "blocks" and this thread was not started to include blocks, someone ask about the price of a block and I said I would check and see what I could find out.
but never posted any price or info or that John H had any blocks.
If you read the previous post it said "if John H builds your block" meaning if you sent him your engine and he rebuilt it.
