As some of you might know I am a GM mechanic and last friday we received our first 05 C6 Vette w/6 speed. GM’s quality control wasn’t too good on this one either. Engine oil was spilled on top of the motor. 2 torque tube bolts were ready to fall out and it had a transmission leak. The C5 and C6 Vettes have the trans mounted in the rear to the differential. The leak was in-between the trans and diff. As you can see from the pics the whole rear subframe/suspension and diff had to be removed to access the trans extension housing. The seal that was leaking was never installed fully from Tremec and was just floating in the housing bore. Surprisingly it only took me 3 hours to reach this point. But the next project is getting replacement seals. Currently there are no serviceable parts for the 6 speed transaxles in the C6’s. So someone at GM is supposed to contact an engineer to have them pull the seals I need off the assembly line. That shouldn’t take too long  Anyway, I though some of you would like the pics.
By the way, this Vette only has 9 miles on it

Wow,can`t believe it got out the door.Shame you have to fix it.You would think it would be returned to the factory to be fixed.

Stingray- is this the same setup that's in the CTS-V? Is it mounted the same way (where the subframe has to be removed to access the transmission)?
We were looking at a CTS-V for "her", but she's shy of a manual transmission (never driven one, ever.....NYC girl...heh heh). If she's gonna drive my new truck, she's gonna have to learn...or walk. :-)
I'm just curious if this is something to check with all the Tremec 6-speeds, or just the Vette ones in particular.
Thanks.

The QC could use some revamping. Over the summer I had a new 04 ZO6 right off the carrier with a diff leak. A brass washers are used on the diff plugs and one had a "notch" in it. It left a nice puddle on our showroom floor and a customer pointed it out to us
Kevan - The CTS-V shares more similarity to the GTO than the Vette. The trans is attached to the back of the engine. I wouldn't worry about the Tremec 6 speeds. Borg Warner started making them for GM back in 93 (or so) and they are still basically the same trans. Our trucks use this trans along with the Viper, Cobra, GTO, CTS-V, Camaro, F-Bird and Vette - they are all not exactly the same but built on the same platform. The one I had was just a fluke.
