First Service

Hey all.

Had the SRT-10 in the other day for it's first service to Tally's Dodge. (1000 miles)
The cost was not as bad as I thought for the service. $112.50
I was watching the dealer closley on how they treated customers who walked in and on the phone and I am surprised to say, they did very good even when it was REAL busy with phones and walk-ins.

As far as my SRT-10, they took her in right away and I could see the wing from the door that leads into the shop. it went into the air about 2 feet and stayed that way for about 20 minutes. Then it went up for the oil and filter change for another 30 minutes. Came down, I heard it start (SWEET SOUND) for about 20-30 seconds then shut off. Seems to me the tech did that then checked the oil level after he shut it off which is what I always did when I turned a wrench.

They pulled the truck out very slowly and even backed it up to the front for me. The service writer was very nice and even noted that the SRT-10 won that Spike TV AutoRox the other night when I first came in. That was a nice ice breaker.

I checked the service order and it does NOT show something I was afraid of. The dreaded high priced SPECIAL VIPER oil filter. I have heard so much crap about dealers doing that. Well, it showed the standard MOPAR filter 5281090 which was cool. It also shows 9 quarts of 0w40 part# 5127394-AA oil

So for $112 it is not too bad because I checked out how much I could get the oil for and I would only save 15 bucks over the total cost because I would still let the dealer do my service.

All in all, I am so far OK with the dealer, give them the thumbs up and look forward to a great relationship down the road.

site drifter , I don't know if this pertains to dealers in different regions, but My dealer said that dodge paid for the first service. Now thats in NC, and just thoght I would pass it along, 9 seconds may know the truth, but that is just what they told me, the sales manager and the service manager. But of course you are exactly right , I run mobil ! in my race ducs and it is superb, and for the cost of it you got a great deal .

I got my first one free as well. If I remember right, I think it cost like 90 or so bucks. Don't quote me on that. I did the second one my self. And the third is coming up, but I got that christmas card from my sales guy for a free-bee. Can't wait to cash that in. I hope it comes out of his pocket. :)

Not raining on my parade, I just don't hink you can find 0w40 Mobil in Walmart (yet). I have tried numerous retailers within 20 miles of me and it is all special order since Mobil is the only 0w40 synthetic oil Mfg distributing that wieght in the US right now and it is not common oil (yet)

Find me that oil for that price and I will be gallons of it :D

Not to rain on anybodys parade BUT, Wal-Mart won't see my truck. I wouldn't let them wipe my dog's ass let alone touch my truck. Just my 2 cents. I have 2 free oil changes from my dealer. Droopy

OMG  That there should be anything common about these trucks.
Getting parts made is a chore. Getting anything fabricated is a beta project. Why should the oil be different. I would like to see the specs on the 05 engine as far a clearances are concerned. There must be differences in there some place or we should all switch to 0W40  I did see the 0W40 At Wally Mart in San Tee, CA a couple of weeks ago. :) Yes I did just discover that out little face things are now in color. :D I am easily amused. :D ................Jack

Is Mobil One bought at the dealer at double the price better than Mobil One bought in bulk @ Walmart?...confused.

Get me prices on that oil.. I will wire you tons of money to buy some and ship it to me. :p

I then get to use my favorite filter (WIX) and 0w40 at a reasonable price. :D

Oops. but maybe to save the hassle, 30 extra bucks or so for the dealer to do it and I don't have to, might be worth it

I have I said it before, if not ... I LOVE this truck!!!!!!!!!

Actually woke up this morning excited about driving the hot rod today.

Went in for my first service today (1500 miles). I contacted them ahead of time and had them verifiy that they had 0w40 in stock. Well, I didnt go in and actually watch them since I contacted them ahead of time and reminded they service manager when I gave him the keys. Well.....when I got back to work I referenced the part number from the bill sheet and found they used 5w30 instead of the 0w40  I have left a message for the service manager and should be hearing back from him soon. Anyway, it will be the last time I take any regular scheduled services to them. I normally do my own oil changes but figured would have them give the truck a once over and see how their service was. I got my answer......

Service done at: Hendrick Dodge of Cary, NC

I spoke to Viper mechanic at Hendrich Dodge. He stated that in the winter they put 5W30 in all their viper engines unless someone specifically asks to put in 0w40. Since I asked specifically, they are going to give me a free oil change and offered to change my oil out again if I wanted to. He mentioned that Dodge went to the 0w40 on the 05 Ram SRT10 because of the introduction of the QC (extra weight and possible load on the engine). Of course the 04 falls under the same category since the RC Ram SRT10 is much heavier than the Viper. I would guess that the 0w40 wasnt available in production quantities and or hadnt been certified in time when the 04 Ram came out.

What part/reference nuber was on your work order?

I asked the same thing of my dealer (do you have 0w40 and they said yes) and I have the part number they use that I cannot cross reference.

In my opinion, that takes brass ones to do because right on the filler cap it states what oil and weight to use. Amazing, can you trust anyone to do what is right these days? (assuming Dodge knows best not the mechanic)

Yea, I emphasized that to them. I couldnt believe it, since I mentioned it twice (two more times than I should need to) and like you said, it states it right there on the cap. Anyway....looks like its par for the course in regards to Dodge Dealers Service.

Maybe you guys can help me. I have my SRT in for oil change I requested that they use the proper weight oil as we have discussed 0-40. He just called me and told me that the proper weight for this motor is 10-30 syn. He indicated to me that this is what it says on the oil filler cap and in the manual. He also checked to see if there were any TSB's to affect a change to 0-40 he states there are none. I have checked the manual which Craig had posted a link to and they to my surpised also state that 10-30 mobile one is the reccomended viscosity?

2004 is 10w30 but the 05s (thought you had an 05.. I must be going blind) are 0w40 .

No problem Site, I should check my glasses also i thought I read that 0-40 on the cap. I wonder why the change from 04 to 05?

Anyway, they also re-flashed the pcm due to false error codes TSB # 18-03-96, also 1800405. I am not sure if this is the same one? However on the ride home I still got a quick flash of the ABS light.?
