Tires? Which?

Ok, my pops got new tires on his truck and wanted Perelli's but the manager was not there and the grunt there said that there were GoodYears back there that had his name on them and put them on instead.

So, what is the better tire? GoodYear or Perrelli's? And why?

Thanks
Jimmy

Dave said it all.. BF Goodrich makes a T-force T/A that is pretty decent, but I don't know of any Goodyear I would want on this truck. Can you find out what type of tire it is and the size for us?

Fortera I think is the model and the size I am not sure of, I am assuming that it is the stock size. But I do know that they are not as "pretty" as the Perelli's and he is not too happy about them. But I wanted to ask you guys before he "talks to the manager"!

THanks

I put this tire on a Pontiac Aztak (????) all wheel drive, I read that the tire was loud but after 500 miles of driving they became less and I do not hear the noise now. The tire perform Great, They handle the road nicely even at high speeds, I installed them my self and was suprised of the some amount of wheel weight added the the rim to balance. tho the road force numbers were at 18 - 22. I would liked to see that number lower, Im very happy with the tires and I feel safe stopping.

The Fortera featuring TripleTred Technology is Goodyear's innovative Highway All-Season light truck tire developed to give pickup, van and sport utility vehicle owners peace of mind when driving on any road in virtually any weather. It was designed to combine long wear with remarkable year-round traction in a variety of weather conditions, including snow.

The Goodyear Fortera is an all-season tire and isn't meant for high-performance. The truck isn't going to like those very well... I'd get them off. Our trucks are NOT in any way shape or form to be shod with the same tires that are running around on an Aztec. Anyone who does this, should be flogged severely with whatever ends up getting flung from this tire when it disintegrates just when you needed it most. I'm guessing it would look like a nasty strip of rubber with steel wires sticking out everywhere...

For the record, the Pontiac Aztec was designed by the same man who designed the C5 Corvette body style (go figure). Appears he did something right, and something very wrong!!

Perfect. THAT is exactly what I wanted and he needed to know!
He is heading back to the tire shop now.

But he did find out that the front wheel bearing is out now, he thought it was a bad belt but saw that the bearing was loose when they pulled the tire. Oreillys' wants $265 for the wheel bearing for that! Is that right? Seems a bit high for a bearing, but then again, I'm used to working on old junk! LOL! Any reccomendations on that?

Thanks again!

I can't vouch for the cost of the wheel bearing, but I can tell you that EVERYTHING on this truck costs more than normal. Heck, I bet Dodge even charges more for the valve stem caps!

Ok, he talked to the tire manager and he said he would order the right ones in and not the ones he had on the shelf!
Had a buddy replace the wheel bearing this afternoon and it turned out only being $155 instead of $265, which is still high, but not as bad as originally thought.

Where would I post to be able to get a P/S hose that is leaking like a sieve! The local Dodge dealership has had one "on order" for about 4 months now! Are they really that hard to get?

Thanks again!

Contact Tony with JTSVP.com (vendor here) he has lifetime oil and power steering hoses. Don't even bother with the factory replacement parts. Do it and be done with it.

And for the record, I have General Grabber UHP's on my truck and love them. The Pirelli's I had on there were about to kill me. Very slick in any kind of rain. Hydroplaned without warning and at slow speed and had plenty of tread left on them. Danger! Danger! Danger! (Steve Irwin).

I hated the OEM Perrelli's, went with BFG T/A something, with the neat tread pattern. Soft tire but the ride is smooth and much better in wet weather. I am very happy with the BFG.

As always, we have as many opinions as we do forum members, but I think we'd all agree that Goodyear Forteras are a no-no for this truck.

I have them all around and love the TA's. Last time at the track... no spin with full tire pressure????:lew:

I have Pirelli's on the front, and T/As on the rear. I still spin em' like crazy on launch. Planning to move them to the front to see if the softness (and hopefully improved traction) can help with the horrendous understeer of this truck. Will be putting 325s on the rear this winter hoping the increased width (one inch wider) can decrease tire spin on launch.

Tom, I still have the Drag Radials, I don't think you will spin them on launch.. :D

I have a brand called "SunnyB" on mine, or something like that. V-rated, I believe. Seems decent for the daily driver in me, hooks up nice, haven't tested it past 120 though.

Thanks, he finally got the perellis on yesterday. I will check into the PS lines. Lifetime warranty would be good, especially since he has 130k miles on it now!
