Crank Position Sensor and Cats

Well ,on my way back from Indy on SA the truck started bogging down when I would go to pass at around 80 mph.I noticed a misfire but no CEL.It would pick up if you pressed on the gas 1/2 or 3/4 throttle but not full throttle. When I got on my street it would barely run over 15 mph no matter if you pushed on the gas.

This morning I had it towed to the dealer and BTW the truck won`t go on a flatbed it takes a wheel lift wrecker. :(

Diagnosis is bad crank position sensor ands bad cat(s) .They had the CPS but had to order the cats. Will be FR at least. They had no provision for a loaner car and I had to rent one out of pocket for who knows how long. :( I did get a good deal on a Grand Marquis @ $35.00 /day but I don`t think I should have had to pay for it at all.In my 27 years of buying GM cars if they kept your vehicle overnight for warranty repairs they gave you a free loaner or rental.

Man, I'm sorry to hear this :( What dealer did you end up taking it to? Local or? Should have given you a loaner if it's warranty ... hell, they have demo cars on the lot they could have given you!!!

Yea,I think they should have too.Said there insurance regulations don`t allow customers to drive demos.Probably a crock.I took it to Tri -County Dodge.I thought about Kings but this was like 7 miles from the house.Let`s see what happens FR.Not too happy right now. :(

That's a bunch of bullsh*t! I managed to pick the service managers old demo truck when I was taken outside and told to point. As long as I had my own insurance they were fine with letting me have it for a couple of days.
I'd raise hell over having to pay for that .. they should set you up in a loaner. From day one, even before calling DC to complain they offered me a free loaner at Kings.

Just talked to Chris and he knew EXACTLY who you were...imagine THAT. :D They would have given me a loaner car at no charge he said. They have a Viper Tech on staff and Tri County Dodge does not.I am stuck now but will go to Kings Dodge from now on for service.Chris was VERY professional and he explained your situation and said the messed up and tried to make it right.ThankSS for the contact info .I should have had it towed there this morning .

Bwahahahaa .. I just bet he does .. in fact I'd be somewhat surprised if he didn't .. I left a rather lasting impression with the phrase "Your people raped my truck man!!!" :)

Chris is a good guy though. He really went out of his way for me to get their mistakes taken care of and so did John. I couldn't be more pleased with how they handled the situation and got the job done for me.
Let me know how things work out for you and how the service was. I truly think my experience was one of those freak things that only happens once.

Well, here is the latest. One of the cats came in yesterday and the other didn`t.One was shipped from Milwaulkee and the other from New York.So it will be at least MO before the truck comes back.Talked to Great Lakes Customer Service and after haggeling for 30 mintes they agreed to reimburse the first 5 days of rental @ $175.00.Out of pocket will be $299.60 on MO.I could not get the agent Laura ,employee #571874 to reimburse the actual amount.I was not allowed to talk to a supervisor as they don`t talk to customers...what a crock. :( This is what we have here boys.Let`s think about that when buying another DC product. It isn`t fair that I have to pay when a vehicle is out of comission for a warranty related issue. :(

thought i read in my warrantee book that any issue keeping over 24hrs, covers rental?? when i get home will look again i never have issue but when i buy i have them write in a "loaner" or "rental" for even oil changes in the purchase agreement ( i still pay for rental when it's only service but the rate is only $10.00)

06-20-2005, 12:05 PM
It sucks.DC says the dealer ordered the second cat on daily order which could take 2-3 weeks. They should have ordered it special which would have been special handling. Now DC has told the dealer they didn`t order it .No bidy can find out where it is or when it will be here.I have been without my truck for 10 days.DC says that they are not responsible for the rental charges since the dealer screwed up and ordered it wrong .I am out $337.05 and counting in rental charges. This is the biggest clusterfu*k I have ever seen.No one cares about solving it.The GM at the dealership is researching it and is supposed to call me back when she figures it out.Based on my conversations with her previously it could be never. :( I on`t have the SS back either. The new fuel pump is on but still losing fuel pressure.

06-20-2005, 12:29 PM
Damn bro, it sucks hear this :(
If anything the DEALER should be responsible for the additional charges. In my opinion they should have given you a loaner from day 1, no questions asked. I may have had a bad experience at Kings but they were on the ball with the car offer through out the whole ordeal. No chance of just swapping dealers either I take it :(

ROKT,
Have you thought about talking to the local chamber of commerce or better business buerau? did a search and found a Tri-County Chrysler in Heath oh, don't know if these are the guys your dealing with or not, but if so, the BBB has an arbitration agreement with them. just a tought. I'd be willing to bet they would be able to speak with a supervisor.

ThankSS Will.I will do that.it is Tri-County Dodge in Springdale OH.I sure rhe Greater Cincinnati BBB would handle it though.I spoke to Cusomer Service at DC and they are trying to get the dealer to get the part overnighted to be there tomorrow.I should know something by the end of business today.

Here is the latest.DC shipped the other cat this morning according to the dealer. They should have it in a day.I am thinking tomorrow or FR I SHOULD be on the road.

On my SS here is what happene AFTER I took back the rental MO night.

Picked up the car after turning in the rental.I get 75 feet from my drive and the car skids to a stop ,back tires lock up .Get out and the brake caliper broke loose and sheared off the brake line.Looks like the air ride broke or shock or both.Shredded one of the 315 Pirellis.I just heard that it is the brake caliper bracket that broke and the brake line got trashed in the process. They don`t make my Pirelli tire anymore so I am going to run my DR until I can figure out what to do on the tire issue.New brake line is coming today and should be fixed soon. The DR will be here today .The bags and shocks turned out to be OK.

Not so fast. :( I started it up and it took several cranks to start.I pulled out and the low fuel light came on and I had 2 miles DTE ! I coasted and rolled into the gas pump as it died ...out of fuel.Couldn`t hardly get it started again. It is either the starter going bad or the CPS installed wrong.Timing seems off on the (Tri -County Dodge ) had to know something wasn`t right and STILL released it to me.The truck was down 13 DAYS and STILL isn`t right.

On a happier note my wheels were mounted and they are bad ass. :D Now if I can get someone to take some pics.

Just got a call from the dealership. It is the starter.Apparently the header heat cooked the starter. They are getting a starter and a heat shield and putting it on. It will be 3-4 days on parts. You guys may want to make sure you shield the headers as to not run into this problem. This is the first I have heard of any of us having this issue.

07-01-2005, 11:22 AM
OK here`s an update: The starter came in WE morning but the box was damaged and an electrical connector was snapped off the starter. It would be another 2-3 days to get another one.I called my source at a local Chrysler dealership and had one overnighted from Chrysler`s Sherwood Parts Depot. When the dealership was about to tell me where there were two starters located I told him Herbee Dodge in Long Island and Sherwood. There was a long silience and he said Oh...you already know.It cost me less than half to boot as I get jobber pricing. $150.00 for the starter and $13.00 Next Day Air. :D Looks like it is going to turn out OK.

My car sponsor got the starter yesterday along with the 3" lowering blocks from Boomer. The 3" pipes also came and O2 sensors from Roe Racing. My sponsor is finishing up the truck and should be ready this afternoon.

Then I`m gonna clean it up with the Long Haul kit that also came in today.Lotsa work today and tomorrow.
