Hey there,
Please i need some of you guys to give me your two cents worth on a problem i have.
I remember a thread on here about reworking wings to fit tonneau covers as basically i have just taken off the Dodge recommended tonnea top and 05 wing because they did not fit properly ( not even close ). I finally convinced Dodge that it would be in their best interest ( and mine ) to refund my money ( close to $2000 for top and wing ) and have now purchased a remote controlled Snuglid SL Tonneau but i cant work out what to do to attach my 04 wing to it. Has anyone has experience with this modification,?? All i know is that the '04 wing will have to be cut in half, shortened, strengthened, glued up, resprayed and then reattached. Just not sure exactly how to go about doing this.

Hi there,
A month ago i would have totally discounted what you said but after running around for a few days with the new tonneau (Dodge one) whilst i was waiting for my new wing to get sprayed i did get used to it without the wing. But i would have to say that at high speeds ( over 110 ) i can genuinely feel the down force of the wing and anything to help get the back of the truck to sit down is appreciated. I do value your opinion though thanks.

Hotshot,
I've got basically the same problem right now. My solution was to buy another wing to modify. My plan is going to be to fill the wing with liquid foam to strenghten the wing and to make it more ridigd. Next I'll carefully, mark and cut the wing. To re-join the two halves, I plan to utilize some stainless rods and expoy the two halves together. Then it's basic fiberglass repair from there. Haven't decided how I want to attach the wing to the cover. probably end up blending it in smooth and then paint. Will still have original wing should I take the tonneau off later. I think someone still had one for sale on here. check the buy sell forum. Hope this helps.

Hi Scar,
Thanks for your response, That was me that had the wing for sale because i had the '05 wing with the new Dodge tonneau but have now made Dodge take it back and refund my greenbacks.. Seeing as the 2004 wing retails for over $1000 i am dubious about getting even the best body shop to chop it up so what wings are you considering?? There was one for sale on ebay but i pointed that in the direction of Boomer and noticed he is high bidder so dont want to try to buy that one but there are others for sale so i might go your route and keep the old one in case i take the Tonneau off and try to get something chaper on Ebay. Let me know if you get a chance about what wing styles you see.

You have to drill the holes in the lid. I turned my wing over and took a manila folder and made a template of where the bolts are in the wing then with the template I drilled the holes in the lid. Then just take the bolts and screw them in from the bottom. The wing can't be too long because the lid is just as wide as the bed so how could the wing be longer? The bolts do go through the rubber gasket. It does sit pretty flush. The only thing is with the weight of the wing, the remote lock doesn't pop up all the way like it does without the wing. Thats the only downside. I don't know if you can understand how I did it, I'm not very good at explaining. Are you going to the drags on August 12th? If you end up going I can show you how I did it in person.

Hey there,
With the last tonneau i had from Dodge it had these funky contours on it so the rim angled inwards which made the top of the tonneau a couple of centimetres shorter than the wing so i was just presuming that this would be the same situation because my Snuglid Sl does not go on until next week but after looking at your pics it seems almost perfect . Great as thats a load of my mind. I am hoping to go to the drags but as i am not racing i have not registered and i think you mentioned that i need to have someone as a friend thats racing so if someone can put their hand up or put my name on a list or whatever then i will be there as a spectator and to shoot the **** seeing as its probably one of the biggest gathering of ram SRt 10's in California, even if it is only 4 ha.ha. Would be nice to get some more there though.

You actually don't need to be on a list. When you go into the track, just say that you're there as a spectator to the drags. If they ask who you know or who you're there for you can just shoot my name out if you'd like, its not difficult to get in as a spectator. Once you're in just go over to where the pits are and park.

Hey Daniel,
Ahhh **** actually you know what maybe i may come and race, i mean aside from the supercharged guys the other ram SRt's are pretty evenly matched aren't they with their mods, I have been sitting on the fence about installing a new racing clutch , well financially at least as i just splashed out $4500 on a new sound system (everything except for speakers ) and $1600 for the Snuglid Sl all in the last week. Plus the clutch setup i think is $2500 and is the clutch, pressure plate, lightened flywheel and bearings but extra for the updated Viper master and slave cylinders plus $900 install. Maybe all this talk of racing may convince me to dig deep, even if its going to make me broke.. Whatta ya reckon ????? If i do it this week i may have it run in by the 12th!!!!

why do you need to cut the wing in half? I just planted mine right on top of the snuglid sl.

Some of the tonneau, as with mine, follow the taper of the bedsides, thus making the top too narrow. I'll need nearly three inches removed to make it fit right.

What clutch are you buying thats $2500 and does not include the viper slave and master? And $900 to install sounds quite high. I got my setup which is the same as VPRPWR from Roe Racing which was a Centerforce DF clutch, pressure plate, findanza flywheel, bearing, and viper master/slave for $1500. Install was $400 from my local Dodge dealer. Are you getting the McLoud sintered iron one? :D That is quite a clutch but George Mcloud did not reccomend it for everyday type driving. He said I probably wouldnt like it.

As far as racing goes, you gotta go and have some fun!!!!! If you have never done it, its just awesome to hit it on the tracks!! Dont worry about being a rookie, most people are very nice and winning isnt the basis for your fun. Driving down the track banging gears is the fun part.....winning is extra!!

Yeah that price definately sounds high especially for the labor. i did the install myself, but $900 seems really steep. Yeah, racing is fun whether you win or lose...most of the time i'm going up against 10 second cars, so you just have to focus on your run and have fun. Most are really friendly and will give you tips and answers to your questions. Come by on the 12th next month and soak in the atmosphere.

Hey there,
Aloha and all that and long time no speak,
In fact most of my decisions to do my clutch were based on your thread when your clutch **** itself so when i do it i will have you to thank. I too have decided 80% to go with the Roe Racing setup mostly because of the money although i think its a bit more expensive now. But after saying that i am also concerned that this is a mod that fingers crossed i will not be doing very often so should i spend more money to get it right the first time instead of being a tight wad??. How has yours been handling it all ?? Have you been standing on it severely and have you broken it in yet ?? The $900 was a quote from my local Dodge dealer for a days work to install ( California prices i guess ).

Hi there,
No i am from Australia originally but i lived in England for two years and visit a lot so was just curious. I am presuming that you sanded the wing before you had it sprayed so you did not have to spray it twice. Must be fun driving with all the speed cameras in England..They really suck balls big time although the one good thing is because there is so many of them that the plod (police for anyone else reading ) cannot afford to put film in all of them so its pretty much hit and miss. The worse ones by far as those C**T electronic detector things on the Motorways i remember getting done on the M1 and i did not even see it. They have detectors in the overhead signs that detect you when you pass and then at a marker further up the highway it calculates the time it took you to reach it and if yours is faster than usual then you get photographed with high speed cameras from three different angles.Thank God law enforcement in L.A. has not gone that route yet. I went back to Australia for some work not so long ago and was chasing a well known aussie at high speeds thru the under ground tunnel beneath the harbour when all these flashes went off and i knew i was F****D. For him no biggie as he will get off because of his profile but i left a couple of days later and although i have not received anything in the mail i'm sure they have suspended my aussie license. see as we were doing about 200km in a 70km zone.. Just got so used to it over here in L.A. with no license plates that i forgot. Love your truck though.

I am with you. I only wanted to spend the cash once!!!! VPRPWR has been running the same Roe setup for a while now with many runs at the track with no problems. Mine is still in the breaking in period so I have not got on it at all. Hopefully I can put 100 miles on her this weekend. Your local dealer is screwing you with that install price. I would take it somewhere else. Maui is one of the more expensive places to live. Our labor rate at the dealer is $85 an hour. They were charging the same price to install the stock clutch or an aftermarket one. It definatly is not an all day job though.

FYI..... I saw gas for only $3.08 yesterday!!!! Woohoo!!! git sum!!!!

Hey there,
L.A. gas is not there yet but we are on the way the cheapest i can find so far is $2.65 for 91 and i do have to say to yourself and anyone else listening how does the truck feel on 93 or above as California only stocks the 91?? After talking to you i think i will go with the Roe Racing clutch setup and quite by accident bumped into this mechanic in Santa Monica the other day with this little away shop that specialises in the big old semi trailer size cadillac's fleetwoods etc. but found out he installs superchargers and all types of weird and wonderfull stuff plus a lot of celebs go there with their hotrods. So i think aside from tune ups etc. at least until i get it heavily modified i might take it to him as he is very cheap compared to my dodge service centre. But if anyone is down Santa Monica way look him up his name is Ed and his number is ph. 310 264 1486.
