dude, have them check all of your pulleys and accessories mounts. piston pins dont knock then not. you have something loose. and after driving it, that is why i think it is just something external, maybe even an exhaust mount or the like.
stinker 08-06-2005, 01:47 PM Could actually be a cracked harmonic balancer, what year is it?
SRT10VENOMOUS 08-06-2005, 02:22 PM its the 04 RC i have rolled over 7000 miles today ...
Silverback 08-06-2005, 03:48 PM And it's never been driven hard, right? :D
I will second what Boomer stated. Internal components noises from rods, wrist pins, crank, and such do not come and go. There is always the possibility of an exception, but they are very rare.
SRT10VENOMOUS 08-06-2005, 05:06 PM nooo never... " to the pin " 24/7 laugh
barelylegalchoppers 08-10-2006, 12:34 PM I have the exact same noise comming from mine. It's a 2005 with 6,800 miles. It has been in the shop for 1 1/2 weeks. They have parts comming from all over the US to fix it. It appears to be a liffter problem have not got an exact answer just yet. I do know they are having to replace one of the valve covers so I dont know if something came apart on top of the head or what. They are being a little hush hush about it right now.
Danko 08-10-2006, 05:13 PM Gawd!! This forum is full of good info! THNX!!!!!!!
mmmmtorque 08-10-2006, 09:06 PM Could be a loose pulley.
I would take it to a dealer and have it checked out.
That's not a "normal" noise and could be something significant. Dont phuck around and have it checked out. Its not something that anyone else has reported on any forum ;)
Haddy 08-14-2006, 04:06 PM Had a similar issue with my 05 with 1500 miles on it....30 days later looks like I am getting a new truck via buy back but they still cant tell me whats wrong except that they are ordering a whole new block...

barelylegalchoppers 08-15-2006, 01:44 PM OK just got off the phone with the dealership. It's not a problem with the lifters they replaced the head on driverside and still had same problem. They are telling me that one of the sleeves has dropped 1/8" from the block. Dodge engineners have sent them a crate to send the motor to them. I'm being told they are going to replace the motor with a new one. I talked to a couple people and they said this was an issue in the past but they thought that it was fixed. Anyone ever hear that these motors had this issues with dropping sleeves??? NOW WHAT SHOULD I DO??????? ANY ONE????

Starguy 08-24-2006, 12:18 PM When we send out crate requests for the dealer, its simply because we want the best possible service performed for you and your V10. The company working on your engine is well qualified, experienced and have a fantastic track record. The dealer only need to pull the engine and cooler and package them accordingly. Turn around time can be a drag at times..averaging 3-5 weeks..but the quality of work is outstanding, correct and worth the wait to have their expertise working on your product. Now all you should do is just hang out for a bit and you will be good as golden with the finished product.
barelylegalchoppers 09-14-2006, 05:05 PM Ok wanted to post and update for all. It is now 9-13-06 and still waiting on new motor. As stated by starguy it does take a LONG time. I have been told the new motor will be sent out next week plus shipping time about a week plus time to install another week +/-. So looks like by October I will have my truck back. Good god im sick of rental cars.........................
SWIFT 09-14-2006, 08:56 PM Mine has a ticking sound when its cold, sounds like the idler pulley bearings are shot. When it warms up it slightly goes away. My friend sprayed wd40 on the pulley and it stopped for about 30 seconds and then started back. I think I'll take it to the dealer next week to have it checked out. Good thing my friend is the Viper tech at our local Dodge dealer.
ed1274 09-17-2006, 05:13 PM when i first got mine i was surprised at the great amount of engine noise and was quickly notified by members that it was normal which was good to know but still imbarrasing when your trying to show the truck and its ticking like an old ford the dealer said that when they installed the mods they heard a loud lifter noise but it went away quickly and never returned but that info is always on your mind
barelylegalchoppers 09-26-2006, 03:14 PM Ok here we go again... Went out of town end of last week knowing that the new motor was to be back to dealership on Friday. Called Monday to find out how things were moving with the truck. Turns out now they had a problem of some sort with the new motor and it will not even ship for another 1 1/2 - 2 weeks so looks like another month once its all said and done. Total time with out truck is going to end up being 3 months if they get it done when they say. I really cant beleive this......

Did you buy it new, if so check the Lemon Laws in your state, you may be able to require them to buy back truck for what you paid new, including sales tax and unamortized registration.........Chrysler had to do that on my ex wife's grand cherokee......
Momoneydancents 09-26-2006, 07:50 PM A New Crate Motor should fix all your problems, but 20 years from now, that won't be a Matching numbers" truck. I'd get it bought back or throw a match in it, when you get it back. The potential fianacial loss down the road, to a collector, would be dificult to predict, but it would be a loss. Good Luck, beside a color change is always fun, and if you paid full price, that's what you'll get back, then just go buy a new one for the current give away prices on these things. A year ago my dealer had a red q-cab in the showroom with a velvet rope around it. Couldn't even open the door without a credit check, and it had $20 worth of mark-up. I bought that same truck a couple of months ago for $36,900.............
