Driving in the rain

I Know we don't get much rain in socal but last night on the way to the airport it was raining like crazy. I was amazed at how much control i had. But when i got off the freeway it would not idle below 1500 rpm and felt like it was missing, in about one block the engine light came on. So hopefully when i get back tomorrow it will run.

That sucks. :(

I grudgingly drove mine in the rain yesterday(Dr.appt) I spun the tires a little starting out by accident. :)

If it was raining really hard it might have been just the hood scoop doing you wrong....I have read about that happening before to somebody in GA.

It rains here once a week in the winter. I have drove her in the rain several times, no problems what so ever.... Of course this is with the stock airbox, some of the modified ones I have seen I am not so sure they wouldn't be good for rainy weather.

It rained for two days straight earlier this week and, having only the one truck at the time, I was forced to drive it in these down pours. I have the "home built" K&N CAI on my truck, with the plastic removed from the grill, and I had no problems at all.

Same here. Even highway speeds = no problem.

I just got back and it seems to run fine now but it has the engine light on.

One thing you may want to try before you take it to the dealer.
Well 2 things
Make sure your gas cap is tight (Will cause a check light if not)
and disconnect the battery for a minute or so and re-connect it.
Basically a reboot.

Yep, try the battery disconnect. I got a 'check engine' light, so I disconnected my battery for about 15 minutes and that turned it off. That was a few months back. Still no problems. :)

:D LOL No, this one was manually removed... thank god. Would have to just park it if every time I went out I injested a bird. Little bastards. :mad:

I had asked the same question a couple of weeks earlier. I had to drive my SRT through a deluge. It barely got me home. I took it to the dealer and of course, they could not find anything wrong. As soon as I drove it off the lot, it felt like it was missing again. I did some poking around myself to see if I could find any plug or water somewhere. What I did find is the throttle position sensor plug had some water in it and the roll over valve plug had some water in it as well. I cleaned the connections and put some dielectric grease. I have driven it twice since then and have had no problems.

Isn't it amazing how often the dealer "cannot find anything wrong." Granted, they don't spend as much time with our vehicles as we do, but come on. If blksrt10 could find the problem, then why couldn't a guy, who I'm paying to look for these types of things, find it?

Sorry, the "piss and moan" gauge was reading full and the check valve just went off.

The air filters you have on your CAI's should repel *most* water. and most CAI's are pointed 'down', to avoid water getting to the intake without some serious force/pressure. In tests with mine, I had the house hose on the "JET" setting, and water BARELY came thru....at a 3" distance. In order to get that kind of water amount and force, you'd have to drive into a lake at about 40mph.

The ram air system I've designed (still doing prototypes folks, sorry for the delay) has 2-stages of moisture outlets so you won't get standing water, or forced water, issues. You'll be able to shoot a hose into the scoop, and not have any water going to the intake.

Water not only messes with air/fuel intake, but it can cause other problems as well, namely electrical shorting. With all the sensors and such under the hood, check to make sure they're dry or booted properly. Sometimes zip ties break (hot/cold/hot/cold/hot/wet/cold/hot, and so on).

Put the key in and turn it to the on position then to the off position 3 times, not starting it....the odometer should then read the error code number....now do a google search for dodge check engine error codes and look up your situation....

I did this on my hemi and found out I had a emission leak that needed fixin!!

They replaced the throttle body and it runs like new :)
