Thanks - reached out to Russ for the 8sp upgrade..... I may decide to go more traditional. Any good mods to do on a fresh rebuilt 48RE to make it work better on the QC SRT10?

I just recently replaced my 48re with a remanufactured one from here, https://reman-transmission.com/transmission-codes/?code=48RE. They recommended an RV trans cooler and larger trans cooler lines for better reliability. I also had the shop doing the work install a TransGo shift kit which makes a huge difference.
2nd the transgo shift kit, a sct/hp tune will help also

T56 would be fun if you like sticks but it would cost 2-4 times what a rebuilt 48re does depending on your skills and parts availability.
Main problem with a t56 swap to a qc is the length of the single shaft most get causes "looping" around 80 mph unless you get a cf shaft or if your truck hasn't had the carrier bearing mount cut out yet then you can keep the 2 piece shaft
