How many of you out there either own or have owned vipers? Since a test drive in a Ram SRT is next to impossible, I am trying to get a firm grasp on the characteristics of this truck. Ride quality, performance, handling, likes, dislikes and any other driving impressions you may have. Does this compare in any way to a viper other than the motor?
I am currently toying around with the idea of selling my gts and getting a 04 or 05 RC. With values the way they are, the GTS is holding if not increasing in value and the Ram seems to be dropping in value, I can probably do an even trade for a 7 year old car with 17k miles for a brand new truck.
I have put 4k miles on my viper this summer and loved every minute of it but cant help think that I would be able to use the Ram more. With three kids under the age of four, I take more trips to Costco than to the strip.
Your inpute is always appreciated

I am in Glenview Illinois a northern suburb of Chicago. Drop me an email and I will send a photo tomorrow. The gts is a 98 silver with 17 k miles, clean but not a trailer queen, driven the way it should be. Carbon fiber hood painted silver, bbs 18 wheels, converted to side exhaust with b and b headers and roe high flow cats, kenwood dvd/tv, tints. A fun car that screams.

The SRT-10 ram in an awsome truck, but their is no compairson to the Viper GTS. If I had to have one or the other. I would keep the GTS. Don't get me wrong I love my truck but the viper gts is in a class all it's own. Oh yeah almost forgot as others have already said PICS, PICS, PICS we need them :D

I don't know, I might have to disagree with the guys on this one. Your GTS is awesome, but you've had it , driven it, enjoyed it. Now while it is one hell of a car, so is the truck. You think you draw heads in the viper, well its the same in the Ram. And think , move on to the next supervehicle, because next year or the year after there will be another.
As far as the truck, the ride is harsh, the solid rear axle doesn't handle the bumps near as good naturally. Plenty of room and niceties on the inside. Tunes and A/C work great. The feeling you get driving is like you own the road, the truck feels HUGE, almost like it don't fit in one lane. And on top of it all its just a blast to drive. But the best thing is you get to come on the forum and hang out and argue with us. Good luck on your decisions.

Hamrhead,
I will send a photo or two tomorrow when I get to work. I think the only ones I have are with it and the Shelby.
The gts is an awe inspiring drivers car. No frills about it. It takes 100% of your attention while driving it, or she will get away from you. The lack of ABS can get you in trouble quick. No cell calls or coffee, just hold on tight and drive. I use it as much as possible weather permitting, unfortunately it draws too much attention in parking lots and the road.
My idea of selling the gts and getting the Ram was good in theory, but I would probably be making a mistake. Oh well, sell the Expedition and the STI, get a silver RC to match the viper. When the weather turns ugly, I have a really UGLY 89 Ramcharger with a plow blade to drive.
Thanks for the replies
Ron

"You think you draw heads in the viper, well its the same in the Ram."

My experience based on owning a 1996 GTS, a VCA edition Ram SRT-10 and a QC SRT-10 is similar, BUT... the heads you turn with the trucks are bag boys at the grocery store and other car/truck guys. The heads you turn with a GenII GTS are the same car guys BUT with the addition of a few titty dancer-types and other hotties. I've had more than one such experience with the Viper and nothing close with the Rams (or with any of my 3 Lightnings for that matter).

Moral: Keep the GTS and do anything you can to add a Ram SRT-10. I highly recommend the RC unless you must have the towing capability or need the extra seats.

Have owned five Vipers and love them. Still have three! The QC is a blast to drive but it is a big pick-up truck. Handles well considering it is approx. 5500lbs. Interior is nice for a truck. It leaves this owner with the well known Viper smile!

It is not a Viper as it weights 2000 pounds more has a higher center of gravity, and will tow 7500 lbs.

Only neg. is the gas milage at 8.5 being typical.

Mike,
Thanks for posting the pics. For being in the garage organization business, mine really looks like crap.

Decision has been made. Wifey wont be happy, but are they ever.
Expedition goes up for sale soon while I wait patiently for the right truck. Since I have three kids under the age of four, most likely it will be a Quad.

Get a Truck

There is nothing better than turning the key in the morning and pushing the red button to listen to the Viper engine come to life.

I have right at 12k miles on it and have loved every minute of it. It is a charge to pull into the dump with a load too, no one believes what they are seeing.
