Read this over on the VCA board. In the post, the guy mentions a 4-6 week wait because of, well here. You read it.

I just got the word that my engine is indeed going back to Arrow.
They're pulling the motor today, and expect to get it on a plane tomorrow.. I'm told the current wait is roughly 4-6 weeks per Todd (at Arrow), and that most of it is due to lunched G3 and truck motors (loose timing gear?).

I'm not sure what that means or what we can do. I hope that it's just a handfull.

I thought that problem was only for the pre-500 ci engine, not the one in the Ram SRT. Am I missing something here?
G3 and truck motors are 505's.

I feel like I'm coming in at the 11th hour. What's the issue/concern?

G(en)3 and truck motors with loose timing gears. There's been some mention of it here also.
Well that would confirm the reason given for the loss of the third run by the SRT Ram that was in the "L vs SRT Ram, Ram breaks thread"
It's a shame that "All Manufactues" still have these problems, with all of the technology in our world today you'd think we should be able to make flawless vehicles by now. Or at least not have them break until we start Moding them :D Oh well every first model year has glitches, at least they're on top of it.
Second year for that engine though. Maybe it's the result of doubling production from adding trucks.
Well with doubling production thats very possible.
is there any mention of vin #'s that might have been suspect for that problem? or was it the first batch of trucks that were shipped out?
If this problem is for real and not isolated, I'm sure Dodge/SRT will let us know sooner than later.
More from the VCA board

Just got a call from the Dodge Dealer mechanic.

He just got notified of a 2004 SRT-10 recall.

Something about the cams. Looks like it will require a fair amount of work to fix it. Apparently, if it isn't fixed, it can cause pretty catastrophic engine failure.

I'm taking my car in tomorrow to have it fixed.

I will be going through Viper withdrawal while it's away.

Good thing I just had my speed fix today at the track.

Kai

called my dealer, talked to a service tech, no word on a recall.will i receive word directly from DC or through my dealer?
If your VIN is within a certain range, you should be contacted by your dealer. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right. The Viper guys (on the VCA board, not me) usually find out things before most dealers. One of them posted this "Cars affected are those built from 9-15-03 through 1-30 04". My guess would be trucks fit that also.

Steve, my dealer called me today and said they had a recall on my SRT-10. Guess its valid.

They, the dealership, have a '04 SRT-10 Ram and Viper and their tech will be doing the recall work this week. I told them that was good; they could do mine after they do their own and get the process down! ;)

If I pick up any lessons along the way, I'll pass 'em on. I'm trying to get a copy of the recall sheet. If I get it, I'll post up the text and recall number.

UPDATE: The repair, tighten cam bolts, is listed in the Dodge dealership service computers as Transmittal 04-006. They are NOT calling it a Recall.
Great information. Looks like I'm going to skip the track day at TWS tomorrow. I'd rather loose $200 than be without my truck for a couple of months.

Thanks.
I also got the call from the dealer. RRT-04-006..check cam gear bolts..my build date was 11/03..time for a dealer visit..mileage is 2500..maybe its just a precaution..

I've heard that if you made it that many miles you are probably OK. So like you, I hope it's just a precaution for me (2000+ miles).

Steve
Just found out I'm one of 11 from my dealership.

Hmmm....maybe I should call up my Viper tech and find out the skinny on things.
