Having 04 SRT10 picked up in Las Vegas. in route to Honolulu next week. Will be driven to Long Beach for shipping. Any thoughts on best breakin procedure. Current odometer reading 37 miles. Thanks. GG,

According to the some Dodge people, They said, because they use Synthetic oil, there is no break-in period, but I waited 500 miles before Hauling Ass.
Do't hold it at at a steady speed too long. Vary your speed for the 1st 500. Punch it throught the gears, but don't Red Line. After 500 miles you can let loose.
THe owners manual also states not to bring the RPM above 4000 and to make sure your motor is at its operating temperature. Change the oil at 500 miles as well.
I don't own an SRT although I wish I did...but with my Lightning I did change the oil to fully synthetic 5w-30. Also, I didn't use the cruise control for quite a while. Basically don't give the truck too much hell and it will treat you the same hopefully...lets just hope that these trucks stay around long enough so everyone can appreciate them enough as all you owners!!!
if i had an srt, i would break it in by seeing how long i could sit doing a burnout :D
Thanks for the info. Do you have any suggestions re which of the synthetics to choose from. I have a contact at Royal Purple Synthetic lubricants, out of texas. Anyone have any experience with this product? Also what weight oil is recommended?best??
Thanks GG.

i have much experience with royal, i wouldnt use it until you get 5000 miles that stuff is too good, & it wont allow the rings to seat properly on a new engine. give it a while before you use it. use the weight spec'd
why the oil discussion? it says plain as day you must use mobil 1 synthetic or they'll void your warranty. i don't think that is fair but that is what it says.
Allow time for break in...

Just read the viperclub boards... you definitely have to break in the engine, and the period is somewhere between 1000 and 1200 miles due to the synthetic oil.

First oil change should be right around that same timeframe.

If you beat your engine too early, expect poor oil economy, and lower than usual hp numbers...
Do the 500 mile break in , without exceeding the 4,000 rpm thresshold. Do change the oil at the same time, and you will notice right on your oil cap it states the weight of Mobil 1 to us.Keep in mind it will take about 11 quarts, so it might be advisable to wander over to Walmart and pick up some lube juice. The thought process for the early oil change is based on how unbelievably tight many new motors are today. It is almost like an enema of the system , to get out the minute metal filings that may be in the pan. The motor will not truly be broken in until you reach about 5-10K miles, in our experience. Vary your speed, try and avoid panic stops, no full throttle for the first 500 miles, and then go play nice, ha!
