Although my clutch seems okay for now, I'm sure it will eventually need to be replaced. Is this a difficult job for someone who has never done it? Or should I just take it to the dealer and get ripped off?

it can be done in a few hours...

do you have a lift and a handful of metric sockets?

even for a novice, if you understand basic mechanics, you can do it yourself.

the hardest part can be bleeding the slave - and sometimes it's a breeze.

You should always try to DIY first. Go on eBay and get the shop manual CD (mine was like $10 its in PDF format) and print off the pages that you need as you go. I did my own head gaskets that way. It seems scary but if you follow the steps then you can't screw it up. Unless you're using an impact gun on a 6mm bolt then you're going to screw things up. Invest in a torque wrench if you're worried about breaking bolts.
