Custom Stereo installation - needs some input

I have an 2005 SRT-10 QC with the RB1, infinity option including the subwoofer, and starting my installation, I have a few questions:

1. Is the amplifier the silver component I see underneath the center console? Some information claims it is located behind the glove box...

2. The subwoofer amplifier located underneath the rear passenger seat is fed by the amplifier or directly from the radio? Looks like it is fed by the amp.

3. Does the stock HU feed the three front dash speakers or are the fed by the door speakers amplifier too? The wiring diagram below is a little bit ambiguos here...

I am installing an Alpine IVA-W505 HU, JL Audio speakers, MTX subwoofer (bought the one that covers underneath the entire rear seat) and some Kicker Amps. My thought was to use everything in their stock locations, move the sub amp to underneath center rear seat instead, where it will fit.

Anything I missed? Thanks in advance,

Anders

Welcome to the Forum.... We are glad to have you join us... :) You just found the best innformation for our trucks on the Web...

Santeen, has the info you want on these issues... :)

Please give us some more details on your truck... We enjoy reading and sharing with every new owner that joins us.. :)

Post up some pictures into the Gallery (an area was created automatically for you when you joined) so we can take a look at it... Make sure you take a picture of the "Build" sticker on the Driver's Door and include that when you post.....

Jeff can take the info off the sticker and get your truck put into the Master List of Owners and Trucks.... You can also list where you are located, anything you have done to the truck for modifications...

Why not just use one of these: http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=71-6502-1, and then run all your speakers with aftermarket amps? I'm a little confused at your subwoofer placement. If your buying the enclosure that goes all the way across under the rear seat, how are you going to place the factory sub enclosure in the center rear seat? And more importantly, why? The factory sub enclosure is a P.O.S.

Thanks for your reply!

That installer website is great. I used it for all adapters etc.

My stock Infinity Sub is a single 10" located under the driver's side rear seat.

Sorry, my bad, I am using the MTX enclosure that stretches across the entire bench with 2 10" JL's W3 subs instead - for better sound quality. No need to use a factory sub enclosure in the center rear seat. I should have written new subwoofer amp, underneath the center rear. Cut and paste issues...

And more importantly, why? The factory sub enclosure is a P.O.S.
Agree with you...that is the reason why...

My 05' QC also has an RB1 in it. You will find the main amplifier for the HU mounted up under the dash on the passenger side, behind the glovebox. You can get the glove box out easily, but you still won't be able to really get a look at the amplifier until you take out the long black plastic trim piece. This requires removing the center cupholder and ashtray and about 1.2 million black screws.

The amplifier mounted under the center console is for the rear subwoofer which is under the driver's side rear passenger seat.

For the record, the RB1 did NOT come stock in your truck. If you pull it out (shouldn't take but 5 minutes), you should be able to see a date of manufacture on it. Mine was manufactured in 2006...

Is it a 6-disc CD changer? If so, it has a panel on the front that will slide open to the side if you push on it, revealing the 6-disc cartridge. That's where mine is... let me know, we're here to help you. God knows I've gotten more than my fair share of help around here to learn about my truck, and solve problems I'd still be scratching my head over!!

I don't know if you already bought the stuff, but make sure the amp fits. It's gonna be tight to put an amp with the MTX thunderforms. I had them in my old 05 Ram 1500 and I had to downsize the amp I had to a smaller one.

I would really consider scraping the HU though. It will sound much better with a good aftermarket unit. I upgraded all the speakers added the MTX thunderforms swapped them with Alpine subs and it sounded just okay.

The Delphi unit that you're referring to is for XM/Sirius. The Center space, below the center seat (QC) is for the SUB.

You can buy a H/U harness, but make sure you get the right one.... 2005 dodge Rams share the Same harness as the Chrysler pacifica, and cost a bit more. With a new H/U, and no other additions (I bought a Clarion DVD/TV), the stock speakers sound SICK!!! Totally worth the money. Just make sure you replace your head unit, and turn the amp up on the harness, and you're good to go.

Thanks,
