Downgrading the rear brakes in order to fit slicks...

Has anyone successfully mounted slicks on their truck? I have a friend that is trying to find a wheel / brake combination that will let him run slicks to improve traction on his SRT-10. I think an 18" wheel with drag radials would probably fit, but a 305/40/18 tire would only be about 27.5" tall, a lot shorter than the stock 31.5" high tires. I think that'll screw the gearing and top end up pretty bad.

I think the best thing to do would be to downgrade the rear brakes to something like a quad piston 12" setup and try to fit 31" slicks on 15 or 16" wheels. Do you think it can be done? I am confident we can find the wheels, but I am having trouble finding suitable 12" brakes because I don't know where to look. Do you have any suggestions?

That is the age old question on this site.....tires, brakes, combo???  ....we got nothing dude!!!! Like Judge Snails said to his nephew Spaulding in Caddyshack....."you'll get nothing and like it"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well i just ordered 2 rear 305/45/18 Nitto slicks mounted on 18'' aluminium CCW, they do fit the truck without mods to the rear brakes. Concerning the height i will surely loose some, but will obviously be able to pass all 675hp to the ground.

My question is : i know that top speed will be affected but what will be the consequences over 1/4 mile run and 200 meters run ???

I will be pleased to. I will receive them in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Lol. Yeah that could have gone a lot worse. :)
Ok, how about this... what's the stock bolt pattern? It should be as simple as finding a brake kit with the right pattern, right? Or is there an issue with brake balance between F/R? If so, could that be solved by a competent brake shop by adjusting the proportioning valve?

Here is a link to a page with pictures of Bogart 18X10 wheel with 305x45x18 Nitto drag slick mounted. The wheel is custom made specifically for the Ram SRT-10, rear only at this time. ( We are working on getting a front. ) These are very high quality spun forged wheels. They are available special order only. I looked for 3 months for an off the shelf wheel that would fit and could find none that would clear the brakes.

HAHA. John can correct me, but I think the first run my TT did, the breaks were loose just hanging on the axles :) Not even in place :)
