Just picked up my SRT-10!!!!! IMPORTANT QUESTION

3035 Views 16 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  cmicah83
I just picked up a 2004 SRT-10 with 2k miles on it from a dealership I do paintwork for. Needless to say, I am in love with my new truck. Traded in my 99 Dakota R/T for it.

Anyways, I noticed that there is a smell whenever I get out of my truck. Smells like clutch. I shift flawlessly every time and was wondering maybe it's because it's a relatively new clutch and I park uphill on a driveway and maybe that's it.... any ideas? I am not familiar with the SRTs and was looking to see if any of you had the same issue or know what it might be.

Also, it idles a little rough. I figured that to be that it's a monster V10, but who knows? :p

Thanks in advance,

Micah

Welcome to the club dude!!!!!!!!!!! dont know about the clutch smell, thank God I have not smelled it ..... your hill you live on could be it.... Never hit it hard on a hill, it'll burn it up everytime... Mine idles a little rough as it warms up but is gone in a minute or two... good luck and enjoy your beast....

Thanks Pat!

Hey, quick question... I love the sound of the stock exhaust on this thing. But, I noticed you put a Magna up on yours... is it a considerable audible difference? I feel that the tone of the exhaust could be... how do you say... a little more hollowed out, deep and evil sounding.. does the Magna accomplish that?

Also, any noticeable performance gains with the Magna.

Thanks! I'm so stoked!!!! Been drooling over these things since they came out. Set out to get one. Worked my ass off for over a year and snagged one! It's one more reason not to have any kids for the next 4 years. :p

HELL YEAH!! Sounds awesome and really mean. Plus, my friends have told me they can here me comin from about a mile away (depends on how hard I'm on it, but definatley a few blocks or so). Bye it!
Yea that clutch smell - well - that would- uh - ....clutch ;) BFG

Most likely anyway. If you smell a little but no slipping I would not worry. Maybe the dealer put a new clutch in before they delivered? I know that a bunch of clutches on the 04s were replaced because the bolts on the flywheel started to back out.

These things are hard as hell on clutches. My truck has been through two. I'm replacing it with an aftermarket unit. Still looking for the right one....
I`ll co sign on the difference in the Magnaflow.I like the headers too.I feel a noticible SOTP feel on accelleration.Don`t know how much but I believe the claims from the manufacturer on the dyno increase.

Next month VEC 2! :)

Roktman,

Not sure if I asked already but here goes. Are you going to install the VEC2 or have it installed? I have been doing some resurch looks like it's a pretty simple task and it comes with pre configured programs depending on what octane your running.
Magnaflow sound

Congrats on the new truck! If you want to hear the Magnaflow exhaust system go to Magnaflow.com. They have a real SRT-10 to listen to & it really sounds like the real truck. Check it out! I'm not sure but the donor truck might be MOFO's truck.
Exhaust

Yes, That is my truck Magnaflow used for the sound bites. Larry
Love my Magnaflows. Thanks Again Larry.

I can only imagine the scream with headers and no cats! :)

Once you get her brokenin properly!! Take her out and romp on her through 1st, 2nd, and third. I f you smell the clutch burning after that take it in and have them replace it.

Make sure you break it in properly though. They can see through the computer if you have been doggin it.

Good Luck!!

Mine had a smell also. and keeping an eye on what everyone has been saying about their smells on the truck, mine is gone...it might be a break in period. mine smelled kind of like after you do an oil change,,,and ya burn off the excess oil...I have 2,800 on my truck now and am going to take it in for its first dealer oil change...they told me it is going to cost me $15.00... we shall see.. oh did i want the good oil in it or the reconstituted brand from the 'used' stock barrel?
Just keep an eye on it.. Enjoy the ride..

Dallas :D
Hey thanks everyone! I'm loving this thing! My pops owns a 350z and I used to bug him to lemme barrow it once in a while and now he bugs me to just drive the SRT to the store. :p

Hate to be a nuisance, but where is a good place for info on this truck? Such as factory issues, any recalls, ALL and ANY info? I want to know as much about my vehicle as possible so that I can better maintain it, and in turn, enjoy it. :p

Buy the Magnaflow.....its a no brainer.......really, the sound is downright awesome!!!!!!! As srtfirefighter said, "people hear me coming from blocks away"......you just cant beat that....just idleing, its sounds like a beast!! As far as performance I cant tell but I did install the mag systems right after the 500 mile mark.....so I couldnt tell....

patrick
Yea, I'm looking for something to improve the idling sound. It just sounds so tame at idle. I want to hear some thunder. I got a frikkin 8.3liter V10 under my hood. I wanna hear it! :D
