Magnaflow CB Installation

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone is having a good new year so far. I installed the Magnaflow catback on my 05 RC RAM SRT10 during the holidays and figured I would share a few pointers.

Overall its was a fairly easy installation. You could do it by yourself but is much easier with two people. I did it without a lift or jacking up the truck.

I sprayed some WD40 on each of the existing stock exhaust slip joints and waited 30 mins (about 2 beers) for it to soak in.

Sprayed silcone on each of the rubber hanger mounts, it really helps on sliding the rubber mounts of of the hanger brackets.

I had to use a 2x4 and a hammer to 'coax' out the back half of the stock exhaust. (Make sure you re-tighten the front exhaust clamps ;))

Putting the Magnaflow exhaust in is pretty easy. It is 3 pieces vs the stock 2 piece.

I know several people have posted about exhaust leaks on the Magnaflow and sure enough, I have one on one of the forward joints connecting that are connected to the cats. The clamp cannot be tightened anymore without risk of marring up the nut on the clamp. I am going to either use a shim or have it welded.

It sounds alot better, deeper, meaner although the SOTP improvement is only barely negligible. Overall I am happy with the installation and fit and finish of the Magnaflow system.

Next weekend is the K&N CAI installation and possibly a set of Gibson's.

Happy motoring!

Lightweight! Just 2 beers in 30 minutes? Should at least been 3! :p
LOL ;) Considering I already had 3 to 4 before I started, I figured I would pace myself until after the install. From what I remember the shots started shortly there after.......it was a very festive holiday.. :D
Excellent! That's more like it. :D Was the Magnaflow for an '04? I have mine from my '04 and I hope there isn't any change for the Magnaflow. How about that stupid resonator on the '05? Thanks. :)
Mine also leaks, couldnt ever get it any tighter......even loosened the clamps and rearranged them several times to try and get a better seal!!! No dice   I am gonna get it welded.....I hate that leaky sound when I pull into the garage....ick!!!

Other than that, I love the system......sounds awesome everytime I drive it.

Yes, the Magnaflow was for an 04 and bolts right up for the 05. I dont have the complete list of changes from the 04 to 05 but none of them should impact any 'bolt on' mods made for the 04.

So far I have seen or heard the delta is:

O2 sensor improvement
Stiffer clutch springs
4.56 gears

The stereo was slightly changed in 04 I believe, someone mentioned it on another thread.

Anyone else know of more ?

Here is a pick of the rear section of the stock exhaust.

Does the 04 have that resonator ?

Exhaust leaks, I guess that is one reason the shop I work with went with the Borla Cat back for my 05 QC.
05 Catbacks?

I was told by a distributor that they called Magnaflow and they recommended that I wait until they test the Cat Back exhaust for the 05. Do you think it is OK to install the 04 Cat Backs? Did you have any issues? They were selling the 04 system for $389 and free delivery.

Thanks

I personally don't see why there would be any difference other than the resonator. You should actually gain more performance. As far as the leaks go, just wipe the inside with some high heat silicone just before installation and no leaks. Mine doesn't leak at all. And if you can get it for that price thats killer, some of the other guys might be interested, because thats super cheap!
Fit wise the 04 kit bolted right up on the 05 (as expected). There is no difference in chassis and have the same hanger mounts as the 04. I plan to perform several more 04 mods to my 05 ;)
Al, can you tell us where you are getting that system for $389 shipped?
Bump, I would like to know also, thanks

Hey Stinker,
Where do you get the high heat silicone? Is that like an Autozone item or what?

DU-UHH. I assume you mean Hi temp RTV. :D
I hadn't had my morning coffee yet when I asked that
10 on the coffee, yeah I just use like a high temp silicone from autozone, usually permatex orange or red. I just didn't want to weld the system then have to cut it later. Just wipe a bead inside then insert, then wipe excess. I usually let it dry for 30 or so then fire it up and normally have no leaks.

Thanks Stinker.

btw, how you liking that throttle body? any noticeable power gain??
I love it, looks great, now I want to get the intake polished or chromed. If John gets it more installer friendly it will be super, actually the blade was the only problem. But seat of the pants it does actually after driving it more feels alot stronger on bottom. And you can really tell its sucking in the air under full throttle. I feel after a tune it would really pick up. I feel all in all with the bling bling factor and the performance , and the fact it was a hennesy peice , it was well worth the $450.
