Well, being the freaking retard I am, I was cruising the net and came across the new short-throw shifter for the Viper and the assorted shift knobs with the viper logo on them. No, this isn't the part that makes me the retard, thanks.

Anyways, they come in assorted colors (the knobs) and I thought a red one would be a great addition to my truck. So I ordered one thru the parts department of one of the Dodge stores I am affiliated with. It comes in... and boy, let me tell you. A very, very beautiful knob. It looks like a marble with the Viper insignia deep inside it... awesome.

Anyways, I pay for it, do about 20 backflips or so out of sheer glee and skip to the truck.

Yea.. well... it don't fit. The screw diameter is too wide. I had a brief surge of ideas, such as boring out the screw inset of the stock shifter and transplanting it into the new Viper one... but yea right.

Anyways! Just thought I'd share so that you all can avoid the heartbreak!

Maybe a simple solution, take the knob to a machine shop and have the threading bored out. Have it bored to the same size as a piece of aluminum rod to where it will be a tight fit. Then have the machine shop drill it out and rethread to the same thread as the hurst shifter. I went a different way and put the old style hurst t-handle on mine. Since BOOMER does alot with machining he may be able to help with this, not sure, but any machine shop with experience should be able to accomplish this with no problem. Hope this helps.
