Well it started like this... I was cruising to my son’s school when I see this silver ford. Thought that it couldn't be an SVT Lighting, but sure enough it was. I cruised up beside him and smiled The guy looked over at me and pointed ahead, so I thought oh too cool... this guy wants to race! So I flagged him to follow me, we get to a spot on the highway that was clear. He pulls up beside me at 30 MPH (I am in 2nd gear not real ready yet) and flags me to go then nails it, so I nail it also wohoo! He gets about a half a car length on me by then I am @ 3000 r's and climbing fast before I could shift from 2nd to third I had him by half a car length, so I grabbed third then pulled at least 3 car lengths on him before we both shut down. We pulled off the side of the road and greeted each other (nice guy). His lighting was a 2003 stock with a K&N filter kit.
His truck was sweet looking, I am sure next time I see him his truck won’t be stock.

Good run. Lightnings are best from the holeshot. i have taken many high dollar cars, i'd have no chance of beating in the 1/4 mile from a stop. the worst possible launch for an unchipped Lightning is 20-40mph. the stock program will not let lt downshift, and you have to bog your way up the tach. but with a chip or program, your back to downshifting to first from those speeds, and the tires and tickets can get expensive quick. Race him from 35 next time

Good kill, and like that one guy said they are dogs from a 30 punch, but the number of cars you put on him I don't think it would have mattered. Is there anything better than a good race?

I had a guy in a lightning telling me he wouldn't even waste his gas on me!! LOL! I tried hard to get him to race, but it sounded to me like he was scared! LOL. Oh well, nice kill!!!

When I had my '99 Lightning, it had a couple bolt-ons (Open K&N, Magnaflow cat-back, Line Mod Trans Valve, JL 3# boost pulley. Best ET 13.25 @ 103 w/ a 1.90 60'), but otherwise stock. Anyway, my experience with the 2nd to 1st downshift was schmokin' the tires ---> Otherwise he's correct. The stock Lightning will bog-down a bit at the 'wrong speed' when it can't downshift back to first.

But Hey - this was a quick street run - no place for excuses. Again, Good Kill!

It's interesting to me to see the difference between the 99 Lightnings and the 03 and 04 Lightnings. You said you trapped 103 with those mods on a 13.25

I have seen numerous 03's go 102-103 around 13.5 stock off the showroom floor with the right weather...

Of course I don't know your elevation or anything so that could play a part in it...

i still have my 99 Lightning and when i got one of the first "superchips" made, it was the only mod i had. before the chip, i could not burn the tires from a stop. after the chip it would lay twin 100' stripes. but that 20-40 kickdown with my "only" mod, would just chirp,grab & GO! in 99, it felt like i was driving a viper, and the 2nd hp wars began. a 360hp truck was on the cover of "CAR & driver" advertised as a "800lb Gorilla"

Yup, my best Bone Stock ET's was 13.70 at 99.8mph. Ran 3 times that night and all were in the 13.7x range at about the same speed.

Elevation was pretty much sea level as I was racing in NJ. The only hills over there are the landfills... The temps were in the mid 60's.

And Bone Stock, from a dig, my '99 would blaze the tires!
