Hey Guys,

I did a search, and came up with this hidden hitch # 82207911 . I believe Sanchoba, along with others, have already installed this.

My question is, does the rear bumper cover need to be drilled through to install this, or can it be removed, hitch installed, then cover re-installed to hide the bolts?

The pics Sanchoba posted shows that he drilled holes in his bumper cover. I don't want to do this. I thought a couple of you removed the bumper cover to install the hitch, but I want to be sure before I order the hitch.

Thanks :)

That's cool Larry - Thanks!

**EDIT**

I did another search after you posted and found this, and the pic you were referring to:

"The hitch part # 82207911 It retails for $109.00 and wholesales for $81.75. That is a Mopar part#."

Thanks - That's what I needed to know! :D ;)

I would like to install one myself but have not due to the controversy. So what's the real deal with towing... Can I or should I not?? What's the weak link, clutch ??
I forgot about the "real deal" too. 9 Seconds linked us short-term memory folks up in the thread here:

I installed this one ------> http://www.hitchmart.com/$spindb.query.hitchinfo-2.hitchview.87533

It doesn't stick out as far.
Steve -

Safe to assume you also removed your bumper cover to install the hitch?

If you do hook up a trailer, will the safety chains make contact with the underside of your bumper cover and scratch it?

Did your hitch come with bolts/hardware to install it, or did you have to supply it?

And do you have a picture by chance?

Sorry for all the Q's.
TIA :)

Yes the bumper cover was removed, along with the side molding behind each wheel. Make sure the truck is clean. The side moldings have to slide up. Maybe some soap would be best. The safety chains won't be a problem and it came with all the necessary hardware. Hardest part was figuring out how to ge the bolts through the tubular steel that runs between the frame rails. The kit comes with a couple of long wires that attach to the necessary bolts. I snaked them through the end of the tube and fished the end of the wire out of a slit in the tube with my pinky. Then It was simple to just pull the bolt and attached bracing hardware through.

Thanks for answering all of my Q's, and the picture, Steve. :)

And Thanks for the quick install how-to. That little stuff helps out alot!

Now I have to decide which hitch I want, then order it next week.

OK - Picked up the Mopar Hitch today.

For those who have installed one, are there any 'tricks' to removing the bumper cover etc.? Or basically straightforward?

May get to it this weekend.

Thanks! :D

Installed the hitch today - No Problems. Gave me a chance to clean up all that stuff as well.

Drove over to U-Haul and bought a wiring converter thing so that our 4 prong plug will plug right into the u-haul trailer too = 4 bucks.

Now I just have to give my Syclone a good tune-up, rent a trailer, and get my azz to the track! Hopefully the BIG Dodge will have no problems pullin' the Sy. I really don't think it will hurt it. :D
