I just came from the dealer who is cutting me a deal on a SRT hood for my new Ram. Chrysler does have a part number for it in the books, and as of right now there are only 125 hoods produced in the U.S. Here is the catch. Chrysler is saying that they have a hood package in the works with all the accessories to bolt onto non-SRT trucks. It is more than 6 months away before being released. Chrysler could not tell me why the existing SRT hood may not bolt up right onto my Ram. They said that it may be fine and it may not. My question for everyone here is why wouldn't it bolt up? I don't see any body-style changes from the SRT-10 to the current 2004 Hemi's that are available. Anybody with an SRT-10 or knowledge of these hoods have any insight. I have to get this hood ordered quick if I want it or it will be gone. I need some advice. Thanks.

Only 125 available ??? Where did the dealer get that info??

When I ordered mine there were 177 on backorder.

I ordered it at the end of December and it is suppose to be in Feb 19th.
I have already received the insert with the honeycomb grill.

Here are the Part #'s to order the hood and the surround ...

Hood Part # 5029419AE

Surround with Honeycomb Grill Part # YL23TZZAB

The hood is a collision replacement part and of course has to be painted.
It should be a direct fit for 02, 03, and 04 Ram's

There are some longs posts about this subject over at Dodge Truck World and DodgeTrucks.org. It looks like Dodge did send out some hoods, but other dealers are saying they are only for current SRT-10 owners as a collision replacement. There are people out there that did receive a hood, and they are under $500, but then you do have to buy the insert/grill and have it painted which could easilly add up to another $500. Sooner then later they should have the Mopar Performance accessory part hood, that includes the hood and the insert/grill, and I bet it is available pre-painted in the factory colors. I'm not sure about the paint but the assembly will retail for about $1,200 which means you should be able to get it off your local dealer for 10-20% less then that.

Mixed info.

125 hoods is the number the service guy pulled from the computer. I don't know exactly what he is thinking. He didn't even let me know that I needed to order an isert w/ the grille to be painted also. Thanks for the part numbers. I had the number for the hood but not the insert. I need to get one on order and cross my fingers that I receive the right hood.

for what is worth, whrn i called to check on my srt10, the lady at DC, stepanie @ ext 7090 was very cool. she said people had been calling about that hood, but only srt10 owners would get the "exact" hood, & they were making a hood for all of the Rams that looked like it thru mopar accy's. it wasnt made as of yet, & she said they had "100's of them on back order".

the part # listed is for the SRT 10 hood. It is the collision replacement part.
DC never expected so many people to want the hood, thats why there are so many backorders. My guy says they only had approx 1/4 of the hoods they needed to fill orders.

DC made it very difficult to obtain the YL part #. Until the word gets out, if you go into the dealership and order the hood they will not know about the insert. That was there way of keeping all us regular Ram, or in my case Hemi,
owners from making SRT-10 look alikes.

So, the YL part is the one you need to have to take the xollision replacement hood and have your own SRT-10 hood.
And just like in this case, DC did not tell the consumer about it.
It is a stall tactic, to keep you from getting your hood just as the SRT-10's are hitting the streets.

Good Info.

That's good info MarkPMB. :) That would explain why my dealer seems a little confused by all of this. They are no slouches either, so I know this hood has to be hard to get a hold of.

As mentioned in another post, they are making a complete kit through Mopar Accessories with this hood. However, Chrysler has no set release date for these packages. I don't want to have to wait that long, but I have a lady from Chrysler checking into it to get me a round-about date. I'll pass it on when I find out.

One interesting note from Chrysler was that they were showing two dealers with this hood in stock. 2 hoods in different parts of the U.S. I would drive to pick one up but the dealers aren't parting with the hoods, even when I offered them almost double the asking price. That kind of makes me wonder why they are sitting on them so hard.

Keep the info coming. I'm slowly pieceing it all together. Thanks!

They are sitting on them because they have the price jacked way up to almost double what the hood is worth. I would not buy one from somebody like that if it was the last one that was made.

I had heard of a place in TN that had 9 in stock, of course with the high price.

I was in the same position as you about a month or so ago ...
trying to figure this thing out. What helps is the power of the internet to spread the word, and DC did not count on that YL part # spreading so quickly.

Here are where you can find some threads about the hood,
we have been discussing it for a couple months now,
and some people have their hoods installed already :)

The first link has the best info ...

What a mess.

Thanks for those links. Looks like I'm adding my name to the mess of waiting my turn for one of the hoods. Since it looks like they will be released soon, maybe I'll get lucky. I will surely not get my hopes up high. I just have to keep thinking to myself that it will all be worth it in the end. Keep me posted on your hood. Have a good one!

I read in AutoWeek that there will be something called the Bumble Bee package that gives a Ram most of the body work of the SRT-10, including a non-functional hood scoop. It will come in yellow and black and will include no performance upgrades. Looking at the myriad of differences between the SRT-10 Ram and any other Ram, and the price of Mopar upgrades and installs for the Ram, it seems that by the time you finished making the body and suspension mods, you'd be getting dangerously close to the base price of an SRT-10, and you still don't have the Viper V-10. Another problem is that it will make the real SRT-10s less recognizable in traffic. I drive an '04 silver SRT-4, and I can't wait to see a real SRT-10. My dealer is getting 2 in on Monday, including the one that beat the Lightning up in Daytona. But when I see an SXT or an R/T, I can tell the difference b/c the front end, hood, rims, wing, and exhaust are different. Personally, I'm glad that Neon owners can't buy our bodywork, I want to be exclusive. No offense to any of you, I'm trying to help you, but by making your Ram 1500 look exactly like an SRT-10, you will just piss off SRT owners, look poseur to anyone who knows what it is, and still be "just a truck" to anyone who doesn't.

I understand what you are saying....but....

I understand what you are saying....but I'm not building my truck to piss anyone off or to please anybody for that matter. I just want to please myself.
I like the SRT-10 hood a lot and I want the look. I'm not trying to pass my truck off as a SRT-10. My truck will still wear the Thunder Road Hemi emblems which will tell everyone what it is. Also, my truck is a 4 door, so anyone knowing anything about the SRT-10 Ram knows that it is only offered in a regular cab. Plus, it is going to take a little bit of work to make the hood functional on my Hemi. When all is said and done, I will have the look and function that I want out of the hood and the pleasure of knowing that I did the work myself. That, to me, is a little more satisfying than buying a powerhouse right off the lot.

However, don't get me wrong. If they offered an extended cab SRT-10, I'd have that in my driveway instead of my Thunder Road.

Can't be recognized in traffic? lol

Pissing of SRT-10 owners? lol

Please .... you can't be serious

But maybe you are ... I can see the need for Neon's to identify other Neon's
in traffic, and where they should not piss off those Neon SRT-4 owners ...

Gawd ...what was I thinking :p

Hey MarkPMB,

I ordered my hood and surround on Monday and it will be here on the 20th. It is sitting in Detroit as we speak. The surround is already waiting at the dealer. This is a case for me of being at the right place, at the right time. At least you know that some hoods have been released and you should get yours on the 19th as planned, I would assume. If not, I would really question the dealer about why. Keep me posted!

If there is a kit developed I might consider it.
I already have a cold air induction kit in mine.

I am going to see how much rain gets into the engine, and if
it starts getting too wet I am going to block off the vent ...
somehow ......

I looked at a SRT-10 w/1700 miles on it and the engine compartment was filthy .... I can't have that..

This is the third Dodge that I will own that is going to have functional Ram air. The other two, water was never a problem. I can not fathom the truly functional SRT's not having a drain hole for the water not to get into the engine. My ram air systems both have a drain hole for this purpose. Yes, anytime you open up the engine to the outsie air, the engine compartment is going to get dirty, but it's just like the outside of your truck. If you neglect it, it will look like crap. I'd bet that the SRT that you looked at had never been cleaned under the hood. If you did want to block it off though, it wouldn't be hard to attach a black back plate to the backside of the grille insert. Being black, it would be hardly noticeable. You may want to keep this in mind before you get the truck painted and maybe the shop can also paint the back plate for you, since you are getting the truck painted black also. Might as well do it all at once and it just might be easier to make that mod when the hood is off the truck any ways. Just my .02 cents.

The SRT-10 I saw that was dirty was bought in Texas and was being driven back here by the owner. It looked like a lot of salt was on the truck from the snow and stuff, so that could explain that.
But these guys who have the SRT-10's could give us a under the hood pic of the scoop, it is open with a little rubber flap basically, nothing to stop the water from what I saw...
The SRT-10's are not "Functional" as ram air, just as an air inlet only.

Should I mention why I saw the dirty SRT-10 at the dealership ???

It had 1700 miles on it and it had a blown motor

I was not going to mention here, and freak anybody out.
But maybe they deserve to know,
while he was driving it back from Texas it spun a cam bearing
{ thats what they thought it was last time I saw it anyways }

DC gave the owner two options, rebuild and repair of the original engine to keep the numbers matching...or...
replace with a new engine.

The owner chose a new engine and DC was flying one in the day I was there.
The dealership has replaced the engine last I heard, after about a week or so.

No more info other than that.
