I understand what you are saying....but I'm not building my truck to piss anyone off or to please anybody for that matter. I just want to please myself.
You won't piss me off . . . there'll be one significant way for me to know the difference! ;)

The SRT-10 I saw that was dirty was bought in Texas and was being driven back here by the owner. It looked like a lot of salt was on the truck from the snow and stuff, so that could explain that.
But these guys who have the SRT-10's could give us a under the hood pic of the scoop, it is open with a little rubber flap basically, nothing to stop the water from what I saw...
The SRT-10's are not "Functional" as ram air, just as an air inlet only.

Should I mention why I saw the dirty SRT-10 at the dealership ???

It had 1700 miles on it and it had a blown motor

I was not going to mention here, and freak anybody out.
But maybe they deserve to know,
while he was driving it back from Texas it spun a cam bearing
{ thats what they thought it was last time I saw it anyways }

DC gave the owner two options, rebuild and repair of the original engine to keep the numbers matching...or...
replace with a new engine.

The owner chose a new engine and DC was flying one in the day I was there.
The dealership has replaced the engine last I heard, after about a week or so.

No more info other than that.
dude you got some issues with the fact you cant have a srt10, so maybe you could go get a Furd? those guys like to whine also.

Viperam And Boomer

VIPERAM,

Yep, there surely would be one way to tell. Hemi's are nice, but can't hang with the SRT-10.

Boomer, why all the rudeness towards MarkPMB? I mean, how do you know that he couldn't have a SRT-10? I know that I could have one and would have one today if they made them in an extended cab. With all the mods and the price of my ThunderRoad Hemi, I damn near have invested what a SRT is going for any way.

We're all here for the same reason bro'. Relax a little.

Boomer - Why would you think that I made that up?
Now why would I want to do that?

I do not have an SRT-10, I have a 2003 Hemi ...see my signature block?

I'll even attach a pic for you.

Now, I just passed on what the sevice manager at the dealership said was wrong with the engine. I am not familiar with the Viper engine as far as how it is built. When I looked at this truck it did have oil on the top of the plenum cover, but they had already been checking the motor out.
They said it would run, but barely. They had a big sign taped across the steering wheel " NO START " when I looked at it.

But if you don't believe me I can provide the name of the dealership
and you could call them and then make a fool out of yourself here.
Do you want to try me?
Caus ethen I'm going to post it for everyone to see, and they can all call the dealership. Your call bro ...
I'm in NC, the owner lives in Greensboro.

I am going by there today to check on my hood,
I'll find out more on this engine for you guys.

I could have a SRT-10 if I wanted it, I just think they are overpriced right now. A couple pics of my cheap toys ...I'm so deprived

No 9 seconds .. I was referring to Boomer.
I only glanced at the scoop from the underside, saw that it was open and looked to have a rubber, possibly plastic flap.
I could be mistaken, and I did not notice that on my YL part that has come in.

I am going to PM or e-mail you some info .....

Oops. Sounded like it was in reference to my can bearing comment. Most dealership employees know much less about Vipers and well, most cars than the enthusiast. I would believe the new engine has cam bearings.

PS. I'm going to edit out my smart ass comment above.

9 ... thats ok. I can understand that this could be a touchy subject.

I have PM'd you with all the names , dealership name, and phone numbers.

With you having a working knowledge of the Viper engine you will know what questions to ask.

BTW .. there was a 03 Hemi sitting there with no engine in it also.
Yep ...the valve spring issue.

At any rate, that dealership is a Viper certified retailer and service center.

That day I was in there they had 4 new Vipers ...2 in the back and
2 in the showroom ... they have not received a SRT-10 to sell as of yet.

Everyone,
I do have the contact info (Thank you MARKPMB) and will see if I can find out what happened. First, I'll see what PVO says this weekend and then I''' check with the guys who actually saw/diagnosed the problem. I don't think it's a big issue because the VCA board hasn't had much buzz about this problem.

i didnt say i didnt believe you, but from the context of the wording it was an open invitation to thor to start his banter again-if ya like reading novels, it guess it was cool. it just seemed like your post was sarcastic towards dodge on various levels, i apologize if i was wrong. :D

nah I was'nt trying to be sarcastic..and I don't know Thor :p

It's a legit story, but we'll find out exactly why the engine failed here shortly.

It's probably just an isolated incident. There should be no reason to
panic :D But it will be good info for you guys to have.
There's not very many on the road, and to have one with that type of problem at 1700 miles is very odd.

I should have taken some pics, but I did not want to push my luck in the service dept .... ;)

Apology accepted :D :D :D

shouldnt really be an issue, a fluke really, since the engine has been pounding away in the viper. :D

The hood and insert are at the paint shop and will be painted early next week.
I hope to have it installed somewhere between Wednesday and Thursday.

I'll post some pics once it is done :)

I'm not sure what it weighs, but I can find out next week ...
I could weight the stocker ...
of course the SRT-10 hood should weigh about the same,
I'll see if it has a weight listed tomorrow

I got mine too!

:D :D My hood came in today also! I'm one of the lucky ones because I just ordered it about a week ago. I guarantee you they will be gone as quick as they got released and will be on backorder as fast as they came off.

I haven't gotten an appointment with the paint shop yet, but when I get it all done and finished, I'll be sure to post some pics also. :D :D

Updated info ... I went by the dealership today.
Dropped off my tailgate and got to see my hood and insert again.
Goes to paint on Monday.

I asked about the Viper engine and he told me what they found was
a bolt had backed out of the cam gear? I think that is right.
He said it was on the front of the engine and must have not been torqued to spec and backed out and fell down in there somehow.
He says they could have repaired the engine but the owner did not want that.
DC never did overnight the replacement engine, like they said they would.
It took three weeks for the engine to come in.
They put a new engine in with only 1700 miles on it,
but now his numbers don't match.
My guy was a little busy, so thats all I found out.

On a good note, when we ordered the hood, since I was first and we were unsure of all the part numbers, we ordered a extra honeycomb insert.
He let me take it today so I could use it for a template to block
off the opening. { Pic attached }

I also looked over it today to see what I interpreted as a rubber or plastic flap,
and I saw nothing. I don't know if it was something they had added to that truck or not, there was nothing on my parts

I hope that clears up what happened to that SRT-10 motor :)
