Thanks to my other quick ride I am addicted to getting Muscle Mustangs and Fast fords each month. Each month holds new surprises and insider information (Ford inside information). According to MMFF in the March 2005 issue SVT has now officially dropped the Lightning, no push off to 2008, no we are going to concentrate on the 2006 Cobra, but gone, finito, adios, adieu via condious and "I'll be back" woops, all but that last one. It's noted in the Dateline Detroit section by Jim McCraw.

He says that ford is saying Nobody will pay $50k for a pick up with 500hp, hmm now where have I seen that truck before, oh yeah in my driveway!

He goes on to speculate that they cannot beat the SRT10, so they are not going to try.

I am definately not trying to start some big feud from L owners on this forum; I liked that truck from the minute they came out. Who can argue with a $32k price tag and $1200-1500 worth of bolt on's that 12 second passes in the 1/4 is a bad deal.

Just thought you would all like to know.

The thing that kills me is that they (ford) realize that there is a market for low volume high priced cars with the T-Bird. They will stop production after this year on that and bring it back in limited numbers sometime in the future again. And how do you justify the Ford GT then?

The Ford GT is just a flagship product for them.Bragging rights and all. They will never sell enough to begin to pay for the R& D costs.Kinda like the Viper for DC I guess.

You're right; it is too bad to see the Lightning die. I just sold my L for the SRT, but as you say, for $32k, and some very minor mods, you have a very fast truck. However, I REALLY enjoy driving the SRT; great truck!!!

the L has been dead for a while. svt is basically dead also. Srt has only been around for what 1 or 2 years and has put out more hi po cars then svt did in a decade.
Earl...I'd recheck your numbers. SRT has not put out nearly as many vehicles as Ford SVT, FYI.

SVT had - Cobra, Lightning, Focus and Contour

SRT has - Viper, Ram SRT10, Neon SRT4, Crossfire SRT6, Magnum SRT8 and probably something in the 300C-SRT8 shortly to arrive.

More models, way less production numbers.

What does the Grand Cherokee have to do with performance vehicles?
I don't understand where that fits into being a factory hot rod. But I am old and may be missing the point all together. My two daughters 17 and 19 say I miss the point all the time............Jack

i guess i should have made myself clearer. I meant hi po models, not just volume numbers. Other then the 4 models QckSlvr has name what else have they made? The Ford GT dosent count because they didnt want to "downgrade" the image of that car with an svt name, how sad.

Not too bad for a used truck. That's not an original window sticker which is obvious with the dealers name all over it.
that's why i posted "RESALE " value, which has to do with used vehicles, the sticker also says it has 7000 miles on it. i wasn't trying to push it off, as a new truck for 35K, which is still a great price (for the buyer)

well you all know how I feel about it.

It truely is a niche market.

Chevy held the title with the 454 SS truck
then the Syclone and Typhoon
Ford held it with the 2 lightnings.
Now dodge has it with the srt-10.

I did hear that toyota was making a "niche truck" I think it was a s/c V6.

I don't know if anyone has seen the new Ford Sport trac? It looks awfully close ot the gen 3 lightning prototype. unfortuantely, it won't have near the power.

I think later this year I'll be getting a new Grand CHerokee (Employee price) and I might opt for the (I can't believe I"m saying this) Hemi package. I really like my Grand Cherokee now, but it is starting to get up there in miles.

The Grand Cherokee will also be available in the SRT-8 form which is 425 hp 6.1 Hemi. That might be pretty cool? I'm in the market for a SUV and looked at the Jeep which is nice but the Land Rover LRR3 is also nice with 300hp. By the way all SRT-8's come with 3yr/36k warranty. Unless I'm told wrong again about this. :)

dont be afraid to come over to the darkside. you can always go for that i think it was 500 hp expo that shelby made. it will only cost you 80k.

Understood. I was thinking numbers. I'll be honest, as a Ford guy, I find it a little depressing that SVT built the Focus and Contour, but I'm equally dissappointed in the fact that SRT built the SRT Neon. I'm not a big fan of ricer rods myself. If it ain't at least 8 cylinders it ain't a performance vehicle in my book.

Also, I would really rather have a smaller group of vehicles emblazened with the SVT logo than what Dodge is doing...putting the SRT name on pretty much every model they make really cheapens SRT's stock IMO. If they left it with the Viper and the Ram (possibly the Magnum) I would be cool with that.
