I've got a 2006 QC Down here in Australia.
Engine has been blueprinted and a couple of mods pumping about 580hp now.
Before I purchase it the previous owner installed a 48RE from Dusty Hawk but the pump died and the transmission died also.
I reinstalled the OE 48RE but looking for where to go next?
I can't find any info on installing a box with 6 or 8 speed? Is it possible?
Cost is not the issue it's adaptability. I heard you can do a 6 speed GM box but been told to steer clear as it won't last?
Just don't know what I can change to as the 4 speed limits the ute so much?

Just purchased an 06 myself and would love to hear an answer to this questions if there is one. Does a TRX trans work or can it be adapted etc.????

So ZF 8 speeds have been adapted to the older hemi trucks, at least the 8HP70 has. Kind of a pain in the ass with the older pre-CAN bus trucks, but no reason it couldn't be adapted to a 10. Give this a read, this is a 2004 in Canadia with a 6.1 based 392 stroker: Swapping in an 8HP70
Honestly it comes down to how much you are willing to modify/cut up the truck to make it work. Adapting an 8HP90 will require the same hoops.
