Guys, here is the quick and dirty version of how to install the V1 in the '05 srt 10 and not having a wire dangle from unit to cigarette lighter.
This isn't the bmw board so i assume most of you here are pretty handy mechanically so here are the highlights of the procedure. If you need more details just ask.
stuff you will need:
flat head screwdriver and an allen wrench (sorry, don't know the size) some zip ties too, depending on how anal you are.

1 - to remove the overhead console insert the screwdriver in between the lamp cover and the console where the hinge point is for the light cover, pry and it should just pop out for you. remove both light covers and then undo the two screws you just uncovered. there are two clips at the front of the unit which with a little bit of side to side, front to back wiggling will release the unit which should now be hanging, attached by the wiring only.

2 - take the clip that came with the v1 and attach it to the number 5 wire on the evic harness, shown here http://www.wjjeeps.com/evic_wiring.jpg
this is a bad picture of it

3 - take the grounding wire from the v1 part and attach it to something metal in there. I piggybacked onto the wire that is attached to the metal used to attach the light bulbls.

4 - i ran the phone wire to the unit right next to the wiring harness for the rearview mirror.

5 - hook everything up and turn the ignition on, the unit should work!

6 - zip tie the excess wires and store it in the console

7 - reverse step one and you are done. when putting the light covers back i inserted the clip at the back of the unit first then attached the part that hinges.

good luck and ps - no warranty expressed or implied or whatever i am supposed to say to convey the fact that if you screw something up dont call me!

Valentine1 installation

THANKS SIMON :)

Do you use the suction cup mounts for your V1? Is there a more solid type of mount - like a mirror mount? Thanks again for the great info and pic.

Just finished the hard wire install. Looks a helluva alot cleaner in the cab without that slinky cord. Install was pretty simple. Finding a good ground was
was a little dificult. I used the same one Simon metioned.

It works great!!

Good directions Simon!! Thanks!!

One of the best things about the V-1 is the SA (Situational Awareness) you get from the two horn receivers. DF (Direction Finding) Left/right, front, or rear. Once you get used to it, you wouldn't have it any other way. Plus the "boogey counter". I use it to tell if the K band is from a store or a real threat. There are a few other radar dectectors that come close to the sensitivity of the V1 but the SA of th V1 sends it over the top of the others.

The V1 can be self-programed to European freqs too.

Mine went tits up after a couple years of owning it. I sent it in and didn't pay a cent to fix or ship it.

Also, you can send it in for upgrades.

Mike V. is a class guy too.

P.S. I don't work for V1, just endorsing a great product.

I agree!

The Valentine 1 is an excellent product, and has already saved my 100+ MPH hiney a few times, and I've only owned my SRT-10 since June 16th! ;)

If you use a bit-o-common sense, the Valentine 1 will definitely give you a "sporting chance."

Just did the install and it went very smoothly.

Alternate ground solution:
Pin 4 of the overhead console cable is ground. It is the black wire with the white stripe right next to the one you attach the red cable from the V1 to. You need another blue splice connector and spade connector like you got for the power (red) connection. AutoZone has them. Just clip off the connector on the ground (black) wire of the V1 power cable and crimp on the new spade connector. Then attach the Blue splice connector to the pin 4 (black/white) wire and connect them up. You should have a solid 12V.

Good luck and hope this is helpful.

Best on the market. I have used other ones in the past and now I couldnt imagine driving without the V1. Best 400 bucks ever spent.
