Thought I should post this for information. Bought my rc 2 weeks ago and had it 3 days before it broke down. At only 206 miles it broke a valve spring on #5 intake valve going down the road turning only 1500 rpm's. Dodge wouldn't buy it back but rather fixed it and now has 660 miles on it without any problems. Wanted to let you guys know that some of your valve noise might not be normal. Still the best truck I've owned.

i was on a service road going about 35 or so and turning about 1500 rpm. all of a sudden it sounded like a diesel so i hit the clutch and let off of the gas and the engine died by itself. i then coasted into a parking lot so the motor didn't run no more than 15 seconds in this state. viper tech said it just broke 1 valve spring, didn't bend a valve or anything. once i got the truck back home i did a leakdown and compression test myself to confirm all is well. runs fine now with about 750 miles on it. what's funny is that the valve springs in these viper engines cost only $3.20 each. go figure...

Three weeks old and already back to the dealer

I just got my new 2005 Black SRT-10 three weeks ago and it already has problems. Took it into the dealer to have a tow hitch put on and was soon called back down to the dealer telling me that they ordered the wrong hitch and that Dodge does'nt make one for the SRT-10. The dealer and I found that to be a little strange when he has two SRT-10 (4 doors) on the lot with tow hitches. We then found out that the hitch on the SRT-10 (4 doors) are welded on at the factory and that is the reason there is no feild replacment. There now going to order me an after market hitch from Loctight.

The second problem is really weird. While picking the truck up at the dealer with no hitch, for some reason the key will now not open the door or start the truck. They told me that they needed to order a whole new steering colomn and it would take three to five days to get it. I was a little pissed and to make things worse they wanted to give me a P/T cruiser as a rental car.

Has anyone else ever heard of keys going bad?

They ended up fixing it in two days without a new colomn but I was still pissed.

By the way- still waiting for that tow hitch to come in.

In order for a buy back at least in Florida, 20 business days from diagnoses have to pass before they will buy back a truck. Florida Lemon law states that if you take a vehicle in for 3 of the same exact problems, you can force them to buy it back as well.

Odd?? I went directly to the Dodge Dealer and purchased a Mopar Hitch for my '04. It bolted right up with no issues whatsoever.

valve springs

just thought I'd give an update on my past engine problem. I now have about 1600 miles on it without any problems. Guess it just had a bad set in it from the factory. I work in the steel wire industry and know that if there is any surface imperfection in the wire the spring will fail. I just figured dodge would replace the truck seeing how new it was and all. Lemon law here makes you wait 3 months before you can do anything. So far so good though, except for the gas mileage!

How can you tell what number your truck is? Also, how many were made in 2004?
