What to do???? 2004 or 2005

Hello all....I am new to this site and need some input. I can buy a brand new 2004 SRT-10 with the color and options I want @ invoice from my local dealer or I can get a new 2005 for $1000 over invoice but they don't have the color I wanted (silver) and didn't find one within 300 miles to dealer trade. I REALLY want the lower 4:56 gears that come in the 2005. The dealer said they could install 4:56's for $800 if I bought a 2004 instead.

I am already taking the model year (2004 vs. 2005) depriciation into account.

Anyone care to chime in with their 2 cents on what you would do in my situation?

Well, you're the one who has to live with it everyday, and pay for it. I say get what you want! It sounds as if you want Silver, so that's the way I'd go. Pick up the Silver '04 and have the Dealer install the 4.56's for the $800.

Isn't the '04 considered a 'leftover' by now? I would think they'd be anxious to move it off their lot. Maybe if you show them that you're serious about the '04, you can work the price down some more, possibly get the $800 gears for free?

Worst they can say is no. :D
Also, my fleet guy told me that I would get the 7/70 Warranty on the 2004 but only 3/36 on the 2005..... Does that sound right?
No. I thought '04 RAM SRT-10's had 3/36 from the factory as well.
They ALL come w/36,000/3yr. If you want to add the extended warr. it's extra!!
Mine was $2210.00 for 7yrs/60,000mi. Which puts me @ 2011 :p under warr.

The SRT line commands an extra $650 or so on top of the regular extended warranty price because it is a special service vehicle according to Daimler.

I was going to buy one but found out Geico offers mechanical breakdown insurance with a $250 deductable that covers the power train. I questioned them to see if it covered the SRT-10 and they said yes, they only do not offer it on exotics like Lambo's and Ferrari's.

I willget the paper work from them outlining the exact coverage but for $150/yr I thought it is worth it. If not (when I read the fine print) I will drop it in favor of the daimler extended warranty. Mind you, I am only interested in the power train.

FastGuy68. I think I heard your story today from a friend of mine in Des Moines. Is it Gary Coleman at Stew Hansens? If this is the dealership, they will treat you right. I've bought an '04 and '05 SRT-10 Ram from them. I would counter offer though. They have 3 silver '04's. Need to sell them. :)

Yep, that's me. I went in and talked more with Gary this afternoon and determined that the 2004 they want to sell me does in fact only come with the 3/36. He was convinced it was 7/70 until we pulled out the owners manual from one of the trucks on the lot!

I am just not sure what I want to do now. If I buy an 04 then I'll have to change out the gears 1st thing. They said they would pay for half if I wanted them to do it. I really have to think about it now because he found 3 other silver 05's but they have every option which I didn't really want or need and they are not very close to Des Moines.

Decisions.....decisions.....
FastGuy68. Good Luck. Stews VERY eager to get rid of the '04's. Change the rearend at half price and offer $40-41K. Bet they would take it. When you buy one contact me if you need storage. I'm storing mine right now but am building a new home in Urbandale with 4 car garage so this is the last time I'll pay to store. :D
You can do better than invoice for a leftover 04. I would go with the 05 in Silver because of the lower gears and the 05 has knock sensors the 04 does not. If you look hard enough you will find a dealer that will sell you an 05 for your price.

Silver is best too!

I dont think the 05 Reg cabs are comming with 4:56 gears. From what I understand, only the Quad cabs are. I would check before you buy. Either way you can get them installed if you wish.

You won't be sorry either way!!

Good Luck!!
I own a '05 RC. It has the 4:56 gears standard. ;) Both RC and QC have them.
Well, thanks for all the input guys. I have to think things over and see what I decide.......

thought they did. somebody told me the QC only got them.
My vote is wait for the 05 with the color and options you want. It will have the gears wanted and be a year newer(higher Blue Book). In general I buy newer usually improved models.
Well, I decided to call Bill @ Woodhouse and see what he can find or do for me. He wasn't in yet but hopefully I'll get to talk to him today. They are only a two hour drive from where I live which is pretty close. I would like to buy local but.....
4.56

look at the tage on the rearend ore the housing it will tell you. my 05 yellow feaver has 4.56 gears :D
Well, just to update.....I have now narrowed it down to either a new fully loaded truck from the dealer or a used 2005 with only 1600 miles and the polished wheels as the only options. One way or the other I'll soon be drooling over my very own shiny silver SRT-10! :D :D :D

Good luck and get that truck home :D

Well.....slight change in plans. As of this morning, I have a 2005 in Silver with the options I wanted on order with the local dealer. I had him confirm with his regional dealer rep that they could in fact still get one if it was orderd this late. So, now I just have to wait and hope they really will build one!! :(
