66 Year old man wanted to drive a hot rod, and ended up smashing into a tree, at a low speed (between 40-50mph). No airbags came out, and the seatbelt came undone durning the crash. It hit a tree head on. Is it normal for the airbags not to deploy?

Is it normal for the airbags not to deploy?

Angle must be correct. Anything greater the a 25 degree angle off center the bags might not deploy. Anything greater then 35 degree, they won't on most makes and models. Not sure about side air bags and their angle requirements.

This happened to me almost two years ago. T-Boned a S10 Blazer at 60 mph, no air bags, but if you will notice, I actually drove under the other vehicle, made no contact with the frame. I think that is where the triggers for the bags are located.
